Thru Hull Exhaust tip, how far above the water line?

Thru Hull Exhaust tip, how far above the water line?
I'm repowering my parents 86 242 with from the original 260Merc to a 350 Mag EFI engine and putting thru captains choice on it (my dad's wishes). My question is how far above the water line should the exhaust tip be. I am putting angle cut tips on it and the boat has a teak swim platform on it too.
