Noise while trimming drives

I have a 1998 sun sport with twin 5.7. I bought the boat last August and had it in the water about a month before season was over not really getting to know all its quirks. Over the winter I had a new port motor put in along with full tune ups & drives serviced. I've had the boat out about a 6 times now with no apparent problem. Only issue is trimming motors. Starboard trim lags a second behind the port drive. I start with the drives trimmed all the way down. I hit the throttles and boat comes up on plane right away and performs very well. Problem is if I start to trim the drives up even a quarter from all the way down I get a weird noise I can't explain. It only happens while trimming up. The drives have a tie bar. I've done tight turns both ways without any problems. I'm wondering if its cavitation or cause 1 drive is slightly higher than due to little lag on starboard drive. Or should the drives even be that high. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

Could be prop ventilation . . . The problem with trimming the outdrives with just the gauges, is that they are not accurate. It also sounds like you are using timing to get both drives to a certain position. That really won't work either.
If your turning does not generate any noise, then you are probably OK. If you trim down a bit and the noise goes away, then it is probably ventilation.
On a different topic - NEOhioFan - you and I were both looking at Sun Sports last year . . . we were actually considering some of the same boats.
. I am curious as to which boat you bought and why you had to replace the engine.
I got a 330 in New Hampshire (Lake Winnipesaukee), I assume that you got the 280 (?)

Tpenfield,
First off your right it is prop ventilation. Secondly I bought that sunsport off eBay at loto missouri with the twin 454's in it. Once the owner contacted me I told him i wanted a full mechanical inspection & survey done on the boat. He agreed. I contacted a surveyor to get in touch with the owner to arrange the survey. After that the owner would not respond back to phone calls or email. About a week after that the surveyor called me back & said he found another boat just like it with normal 5.7l twins. All options except windlass anchor. Drove out on a Thursday. Went on the boat all day Friday with surveyor. Then couple took us back out for the rest of the day& night partying. Pasted survey. Negotiated the old man from $30k to $24k at dinner. Bought the boat. It was owned by a 77 year old man that let his 50 year old kids used. It was lift kept under a roof kits whole life. The owner had a friend who shipped it back for $1k. In between these two boats I found the boat at dredge harbor I was lined up to look at. It did not have shore power and could only get them down to $26k. Plus it had a lot more hours on it that the marina claimed the old man had Alzheimer's & left the keys on. Lastly it was used in brackish water and boat is Missouri was freshwater.

Yea, I was looking at the one in Dredge Harbor as well. The sales guy forwarded me some pictures . . . the only thing, it was from an email that he had originally sent you !!! I think that boat is still on the market (not sure). I put a bid in on that boat, but the sales guy never got back to me . . . I bought the 330 the next weekend.
Glad you found a nice boat.

I forgot about the motor. 5 weeks after I got the boat in the water a big garbage bag wrapped around my out drive. It overheated the motor. Let me say that I have Boat Us for insurance. They were excellent for the claim except they deappreciated by 80% value. New short block with install labor was $6800.00. I spent $2k of my own money. Great thing boat us did was pay me the claim as I was getting a brand new factory engine that cost $15k so it helped out.
