My 2006 Fastech 292 came from the factory with a four channel Kenwood amp (60W X 4 at 4 ohm), 6X9 speakers in the cockpit and 5-1/2 speakers in the cabin. I decided to upgrade the cockpit speakers and got a set of Polk Audio MM691's. These are their Mobil Monitor series speakers and I read a lot of great reviews on them. They are 3-way 6X9's and come with separate crossovers. Another thing is they are rated at 2.7 ohm, so my amp will put out about another 30W per channel, or around 90W.
I had to find a place to mount the crossovers behind the speakers. I made aluminum brackets and on the drivers side used extra long machine screws for the courtesy light and secured it there. On the passenger side I used an existing threaded stud that secures the inner liner to the deck.
As for the results, WOW, these speakers simply blow away the factory Kenwood's! It is like I put a completely different system in the boat. The clarity, volume and range is amazing and they actually hit pretty hard down low. My brothers couldn't believe the difference and thought I installed a subwoofer. I highly recommend these speakers. I just wish I made this upgrade about seven years ago!
