Default Loose steering on a F303 SR1

I have a F303 SR1 that has several inches of side to side in the Bravo drives before the steering wheel moves. I origionaly thought it was the gimble rings but the steering shaft through the transom only has a slight amount of play to the drives. There is far more play from the arm to the wheel. Are there any adjustments that can be made at the steering actuator or with the cables that will tighten things up? Where should I look?

.

I would look in the classifieds for full external hydraulic steering. I had a 90 292 sri that had the same issue, installed hydraulic steering and then I had a real offshore boat. That boat road on rails from then on. Wouldn't be on a 60 mph + boat without external hydraulic steering. Good Luck.
