Default looking to upgrade currently have 272 and want bigger and faster. please help

we currently have a 1987 272 sr1 yellow with twin 350 mags. we are looking to upgrade this year to a bigger and faster boat. i was thinking that the 312 could be the boat for us. i really like the 496 as a powerplant. but they seem rather hard to find, especially in the 425hp engines.

any input that i can receive that can help us make a decision would be great

budget around 60k

the questions and concerns that come to mind are

is is the 312 going to be a big enough boat for us, or should i look for a 353 or possibility a upgraded 336 sr1

are there any 312 with 425 horse 496s around.

i do not want to buy a salt water boat seeing that i boat strictly in the great lakes

thanks

john

that budjet will buy you the nicest 312 out there with the power, 336 is a great choice as well, but with a nice budjet I'd say get the 312 for the more modern looks... that should also get ya a 98ish 353 with black 502's if you can find one

Depending on truck size if your towing. 1500 (150) truck get the 312, 2500 (250) truck get the 353 but it is at the top of maxing the 2500 out. If the towing is not a factor go 353. That is if you can find a good 353 in the $60's, should be able to get a late 90's with black power.

I boat with two buddies almost every weekend. One has a 336, one has a 272 and I have a 353. For 60k I would buy a 353 with out a doubt in my mind. From a 272 a 312 won't be big enough of a step up IMHO. Also with the 336 or 353 you get a enclosed head which is always used on my boat.

The decision is easy

I had a 312 (502's) and a buddy had a 272......actually not alot difference in size. While not common, you can find a 353 for $60K

How much are you looking to sell the 272 for?
