mmm... they are selling in the 25-30 k range
you have to figure 15 to 20k for blue engines minimum
5 to..7 k in drives
without counting steering and some resto

so how much would the seller give you to buy his boat? or worth nothing up to...2 or 3k, everything above will be wasted money, but it always cost something to have fun... it all depends how much fun you want to buy !!!

Doesn't work like that. The parts are worth more than the whole, which is why there is what seems to be a nice 357 being parted in the swap shop right now. He says he was going to sell the whole boat for 14k, now he's asking 14k for his motors, go tell him his drives are worth 7 and his hull is worth 3 so that means his engines are worth 4k. If you are putting a boat together piece by piece you will pay more than what the finished boat is worth. You can't dictate the selling price of an individual part by saying what the entire boat is worth. Also, I would guess a typical Formula would have 365 horse motors with a few hundred hrs on them. Want to give me 20k for those engines? Why would that same formula need 20k worth of engines to go back together? There is another 357 hull being offered for 20k in the boats for 30k thread. He'll sell the whole boat for 30g and he is taking off just 10k if someone wants it without engines and drives. But you are placing the engine drive value here at 27k. Go tell him his engines and drives are actually worth 27 and his hull 3 just for sh*ts and giggles.

I'm talking buying parts to put it back together. my 357 has bone stock 454-420 hp, boat ran low 60's.
these boats were build basically with these engines, not with the 365's
if you can find the equivalent of those 420 hp engines, either 502 at what... 7500$ each or 496 Ho at 10 k or lower, I'd buy them! go with blue engines it's more expensive.
we're not talking about how much money it's worth when selling his boat apart.
we're looking at is it worth or how much is worth a boat you have to buy engines and drives.
the point was to say most of the time, have more invested in a 30k boat, when buying parts to put it back together, then buying a running one.
benn there, done that!

I was editing while you were typing so I apologize for that as what is there now might be different than before. My point being, unless it is rotted trash you will not buy a 357 hull for 3k. If your point is that you will have much more than 30k invested then why devalue the hull so it has to add up to 30k when completed.

The guy asked what the hull was worth and you told him 0-3k unless I misread. So we agree that it is much more expensive to build a boat in pieces and its not the best way to go (unless you have the parts). So, what's a 357 hull worth?

I've been thinking about that which is why I got involved in this thread. Part of me wants to finish it so I have something with a cabin in it. I was even thinking of finding someone with engines and no boat and seeing if they wanted to split it. It's definitely not for sale at 3k. This guy was thinking of selling his and was told it was basically worthless.

I had 2 357 at the same time. a running updated one, and a boat without motors and drives wich I planned on restoring.

was asking 10 k for the empty one. nothing would move. finally ended up selling the boat 2 years later, with 2 BW tranny included for 5k... that was ... 9 years ago on a 1987 formula 357...
