Im presently serching for a 1988 to 1990 311SR1.I have come across a 1986 31 ft Formula Thunderbird, twin 430 hp,Kamma drives. The boat looks in primo condition on photos(internet supplied). My questions are: I have TRS drives now on my boat are the Kamma drives dependable and as cheap to work on(parts wise)This boat on photos looks the same as the 311SR1,what are the differences?weight ,width, interior? Advertised top speed is 71mph. The broker wants $35,000 US Im going to get a survey done. The boat is in California and Im in Ontario,Canada so any input would be great. Thanx Andy...

As I understand the Kaama drives can be rebuilt with stuff available from McMaster Car. They are very strong and very fast. They put off a HUGE rooster tail when you are running. The bads of them are that like all surface drives docking takes some getting used to. I would say that given some time that they will be easier to get parts for then the TRS drives soon

You may want to get in touch with 302SRI on this board. He has a boat with the same set up. His is for sale too, and I have seen it in person. It is immaculate. Some people say that the Kaama's are hard to get up on a plane. I saw his jump right up faster than I can get my 242 up with twin 350's. The roostertail is too cool! Check it out. Here is his link. If you are looking for something like this, I don't think you can beat the deal. Hell, buy it and leave it down here for the winter and get in some boating. I'll even take it out for you if it needs to be run.
