Default External Steering on 292 Sr1

I'm looking at installing external steering on my 89 292. From what I can see, everyone has the cylinders mounted on the inside of the drives vs the outside. I am guessing this is due to the silent thunder platform. Does anyone know what the travel on the hydraulic cylinders needs to be. I'm thinking about a set that are 8" travel but I don't know if this is correct.

With 34.5 inch centers you'll need 7" stroke.
