Default Exhaust Resonators ??

I noticed when I took my Silent Thunder box off that there are resonators on the exhast tubes between the manifold and the tips.

1. Has anyone taken there's out ??

2. What was difference after removing ??

3. Will it hurt anything if you remove them ??

Thanks for any feedback you guys can share on this. SJ

I'm assuming your referring to the internal flapper. I know some have removed them. I left mine in as I felt I was possibly more susceptible to water intrusion without having the box there. They are not going to prevent it from happening but I figured anything in the way would help limit how far it would get if any did get in there.

I'm not talking about the flapper in the tip of the exhaust. I'm talking about the resonator in the hose between tip and manifold.

Hope this helps. SJ

Those are only in non captains choice big blocks. Since I have SBs and captains call I don't have them. I've read posts that people have gained a little more RPM after removing which would equate to maybe a 1mph or so. Guess it depends on if the risk outways the reward. I know for 1mph, IMHO I wouldn't do it.

I have them in my non captains small blocks.. I have not removed them as they help keep water out ( stays tied to the dock) But you will see a 200ish rpm gain and a bit louder.
