Swim deck removal and mod
Some time ago I saw a thread here on the removal and, as my memory serves me, a modification of the factory swim deck. The mod was described as cutting out the factory exhaust pockets and reglassing the underside of the swim deck. I did a search but couldn't find the thread again. If anyone has a link to that thread I would appreciate the help. Or if the person that did this mod happens to read this post please contact me.
I need to remover the swim deck to have some of it repainted. Wile it's off the hull if this mod is doable, within reason, might as well do both at the same time. Silent Thunder has already been removed from swim deck. Roughly what does the swim deck weight? Thanks for any help. R |
The process of taking off the platform is easy just a few bolts, the platform weights about 100 or so it's been awhile. If you looking for more sound you can cut out the baffle inside with a hole saw, but I think I used a Dremmel. You will see the baffle just look inside the exhaust port. This will only take minutes to do.

Masi thanks for the info. I'm more looking to clean up the look under the platform. Eddie marine exhaust manifolds were added by the previous owner and the original rubber flappers are long gone. I'm sure it will sound a little better when it's not baffled by the factory exhaust channels in the platform. It's more an aesthetic project than anything.
I guess I should say this is on a 89 292 SR-1. |
Are you saying you want to cut the bottom of the existing platform and reglass it so you have tips straight through the transom?
I'm not sure just what you mean, but that will be a lot of glass work. I piped directly through my 311 for the same effect. I |
Mr Maine Yes that is what I am talking about.
That's an interesting idea. How did you go about doing that? Any pics available? Thanks. |
The problem with that, at least on the 311 is the exhaust exits high compared to the height of the platform. You can't just cut it away and go straight through. My 272....maybe, it was different. I think the 292 is like the 311 though.

Yes I think you are correct based on the pics in your other thread the 311 looks just like my 292.
I'd like to keep the platform as you said but I also want a cleaner look. And I won't turn my nose up at a little more loudness. I really like what you did and it sounds good! I think I'll be doing the same. Are you running 454 mags with 4" exhaust? |
This boat has the 420s with 4" Gil exhaust
