Hey guys I am looking for the reason behind why formula switched the mounting position of k planes on a 353. I have a 04 and they are even with the transom angle my cousin has a 05 and his are straight across the transom. Just wondering what the purpose of that was. Thanks

If you're asking specifically about Formula, maybe they experimented a little? I have no idea. (Just call me useless)
If it's a general question, it's been discussed before, the advantage of horizontal mounting Vs parallel to the hull bottom. Fountain did a few of each but mostly horizontal. The argument was that if mounted parallel to the hull, when you lower the tabs, they not only push down on the water but they push out to the side as well, creating more drag and effectively the tabs are pushing against the direction of drive.
It wasn't conclusive and it was a bit like arguing step bottoms Vs straight. I'll have a search for the old thread....

There are several LONG threads on the forums about these two different mounting styles, not specific to Formula. Several manufacturers have gone both ways at different times. You will often see Fountains with them mounted on the same plane.
There is no right or wrong answer here as to which way is best. But most often on most boats you see them mounted following the hull shape.

I know you're not looking to move your tabs, that's a little off topic but if you want to read a few opinions for and against, here ya go......
