I bet that's a great setup, probably planes easier and has the same top end.
|
I would think fuel usage would be less at cruising speed.
|
Just bought it, too good of a deal to pass up. I'll let y'all know soon. Never had a formula.
|
I love mine but as all 292 owners know they crawl out of the hole. It will be great to hear how it performs with the dual prop drives.
I have started fabing up arration tubes for the drives to allow more slip to the props on take off. Kind of like a high stall torque converter... Congrats..... |
i hope it does well too. Only thing about this one is no through hull, when he did the install of the Volvo stuff he ditched that. Not sure what my options are but as soon as I pick it up (week or two) I'm going to get right on it. Captains call would be nice but honestly don't really care if I can't silence it.
This was really a last minute purchase and I have not seen the boat. Maybe one of you guys can answer this. But is that flapper on the back attached to a "tip" that I can expect that at least that is there? I've been asking the seller questions but I don't think he is the mechanical type. |
the exhaust flapper you see is on the Silent Thunder Box, It's just a stainless flange with the rubber riveted to it. Usually there are stainless tips that go from the transom to the silent thunder box, but looking at the engine pic they are not there. so if you want them, your going to have to cut new holes where they were previously. basically want you have is just a silent thunder exhaust box less the exhaust.

probably make more sense when I see it......

Interesting that this has a silent thunder box but I don't see any holes in the transom where the exhaust would have went though before. I would imagine this would preform well with that power setup. I would be sure to get info on the shop that did the re-power and try and get as much info on the boat from them as you could.
Good luck, looks like you got a nice deal! Welcome to the club! |
Well how did this thing run with the dou props?
|
So I have the boat back in Charlotte, went to pick up this past weekend. I understand the silent thunder exhaust now. Quite frankly never seen anything that before. What's interesting to note is that there are no transom holes for the exhaust, but yet there are holes where you could see screws holes from the previous merc set up. I am definately taking off that silent thunder box and converting to through hull.
I did have the opportunity to run it for literally about 5 minutes. Note: I have had no previous experience with DPS drives. These things really bite and accelerate hard. I cannot think of a situation with people and gear where this thing wouldn't snap on plane in a hurry. I have no idea of top end end yet. I really just had it up to about 50 and that was it. Question though, has anyone done stereo work? I can't believe there are only two speakers in the cockpit. I'm hunting for a good place to mount some extras but nothing is jumping out at me so I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas. |
So I have been waiting to find out how your deal went. I was watching that ebay listing up until the very end. I traded a buch of emails with the guy who was selling it and wanted to bid but would not have been able to pick the boat up in a time frame that worked for him. I was really curious if that boat had transom work done on it because you can see a bunch of vacant screw holes...but then I realized there had been an engine swap. You got a great deal...particularly if all you need to worry about is adding a few speakers.

I wonder what it would do with twin bravo 3s
Isn't the bravo 3 only good to aboUT 60-65 tops? |
Does your boat have power bolsters? Is so, you can have pods made and bolt them to the seat bottom. That's how I have my 2 10's mounted in my boat. They sound great and are 100% out of the way.

JPM540: Boat is clean, it's not new so I expected a few marks. It really just needs a good clean. Honestly this boat model wasn't even on my radar screen. I was fairly certain I was going to get another cat. It was simply to good of a deal to pass up and the missus thought she'd be happy with this boat. I must admit it will be nice to have a few creature comforts like the bimini, but topping out at 70 on a perfect day is not something I'm really stoked about. Weather has been horribly cold here in Charlotte and Ive not yet had a chance to clean her up and start figuring out how to do the through hull exhaust. I keep this thread updated for anyone that is interested. If anyone has any more stereo speaker suggestions please let them fly. I need to figure something out, two 6x9's is not going to cut it when I'm at the sandbar and 50 ft from the boat. |
My 271 I added 6x9s under the rear seat, and my current 312 someone else did the same thing.
