What kind of drive showers are these?

I installed Latham showers on my 292, but they are made to work with their plate that mounts on top of the drive for hydraulic steering.
One thing I noticed in your picture is the shower is mounted on the wrong side of the cavitation plate. The instructions on the Latham shower were very specific in that the water pick-up should be mounted on the side of the cavitation plate that sees the 'upswing' of the propeller. This not only helps force more water up the tube to cool the drive, but is also eliminates the potential for the pick-up to cause prop cavitation by sucking air on the down swing. Hope that makes sense.

good catch 4mula! I had a 1990 292 SR1 for about 7 years. Loved the boat. Relatively fast, nimble and rock solid ride for a 29 footer. I had bravo 1's with 365 mags. My showers were stainless tubes that routed around the drive and had holes in the top for water to dump on the top of the drive. Install was on upswing side of the propeller rotation. All 272, 292 and 311 of the day ran props swinging outboard. Those boats need bow lift and inboard swing of props give stearn lift. Added stainless marine exhaust! The stock manifolds of that era were junk, no other words to describe that cast iron stuff. Current mercruiser exhaust are better as they externally plumb sea water between the manifold and riser, not internally like the stuff of that era. I would recommend updating to 3rd party exhaust for sure. Also, if your boat runs over 60 mph, I'm a big believer in full external hydraulic steering, much, much safer and my boat was a totally different boat with the hydraulic steering. Much, much more stable at speed.

Hey everyone,
Thanks for all your help, but it appears that the 292 that I was going to see today is claimed to be sold. The guy told me on Thursday that it was still around and now he's saying it's sold. All seems fishy but I can't understand for the life of me why anyone would go to that extent.
Anyway, I'll be sure to come back and ask more questions about the next one which comes up for sale
