I think I might go this way...

The link is to a Rockford 10-inch shallow mount in its own box. If they'll fit inside the gunwale storage areas, they'll work.
I bought 10 " mtx subs for my 242 and they are too big , matter of fact I was drinking one night and bought an entire system for the boat , subs , amps speakers head unit, any way put 2 speakers in and can't hear em over the motor never installed the rest . This year I'm just gonna use a Bluetooth portable speaker I got from Bose for like 180$ thing is loud sounds good a don't have to worry about batteries dying !

LOL... I hear you on "impulse buy" thing!

I have the Bose for use in my bedroom, and when cooking on the patio. It does okay, but it does not do all that well on the boat. Just sayin',

Final configuration:

Head Unit and Amp

Pioneer MVH-X370BT Media Receiver

Alpine PDX-5M Digital Amplfier

Cockpit

(4) Alpine Type-R SPR-M700, 7-inch 2-way speaker

- two in the forward cockpit
- two in the rear bench
- both installed with baffles

(2) Polk Audio DB1040DVC, 10-inch subwoofer

- 12x19x7 inch enclosures, 1/2-inch MDF, fiberglass'd for strength, .60 CF plus .5 lbs poly-fill
- installed one each inside gunwale storage areas

Cabin

(2) Alpine Type-R SPR-M700, 7-inch two-way speaker

- powered by the head unit
- toggle switch to turn off amp when cockpit not in use

----

The biggest pain will be getting the subs inside the gunwales. We may need to take apart the panels in order to make it happen. We shall see! Regardless, it should sound very good once we're all done. Installation will start in the next couple of weeks. More to come!

Sounds like a great setup TomZ, I would love to see it/hear it when its done whenever I return to the area! Are you going to leave the gunwale storage doors open while riding?

The boxes will reside inside the gunwales so there will be some experimentation. I'm hoping that it won't matter too much having the doors slid open or now. I'll definitely open them up when we're beached/docked/rafted-up. I don't keep much of anything in there anyway... some life jackets and flares. Everything else goes under the bench or in the storage bins on the sides of the engine.
