Default 223LS - 454/330 - Prop Guidance

Hey guys, I have a 1988 223LS with a stock 454/330 & a Bravo. The boat currently has a 23P Mirage Plus and runs great - 50mph @ 4k and tops out 60 @ 4.9k. From what I understand the standard 454 really shouldn't rev past 4500/4600 - is this correct? Should I stick with the Mirage Plus or try to take it one "step" higher? If so - does anyone with the same hull/power have any input/experience?

Thanks!

Obligatory picture.

I wouldn't worry about it, but the 330 is pretty out of breath by 4900. A four blade Rev 4 23 would get you better cruise speed and the same top end, as well as drop about 200 rpms (they run big).

I have ran the Rev4 against the Mirage plus on 2 different boats and got the same top end on both

Very nice looking, I have a 1989 223LS and I am running a Bblades worked 24P Bravo 1 Prop. With my old engine, my best run was ~69 MPH at ~5000 RPM with a light load and 65-67 MPH fully loaded. Hoping for a consistant 70-74 MPH with the new engine. That prop has been great all around on my boat. I have zero complaints. I am trying a 23P Mirage and 25P mirage this summer to see how she responds to it but I have a feeling I will stick with the Bravo prop for the all around benefits. My cruise was 42 MPH at ~3100 RPM

I have no idea, the guy the previous owner purchased the boat from (2 owners ago?) built the engine back in 2008. When I disassembled it, I found that it was a Gen VI (1997) 454 Block, Stock Crank turned .010, Stock Rods, Unnamed Custom Grind Cam, +.030 Diamond Performance Pistons (~9.1:1 Compression), 088 Heads with stock lifters, rockers, etc., Edelbrock Performer RPM Dual Plane, Stainless Marine Manifolds and Tails to Hardin Marine tips, Holley 800 Double Pumper. New engine has a lot more goodies. Here is my build thread so far...

Got lucky and found a great deal on a Revolution 4 23P on my local craigslist... unfortunately I'm leaving town tomorrow but will give it a shot next weekend!

I run the Rev4 23p on my 223 and love it. Performed pretty much exactly the same as a 24p Bravo. Tried a 25p Mirage plus once, and while the top end was the same, the cruise was terrible, and it was just all around worse. Came off very quickly!

A completely stock 454/330 might be a little over propped with the 23p Rev. Mine came stock with a 22p Bravo and that was about all it could push. Once i did the top end and exhaust (still stock cam though), then I was able to step up the prop. I cruise 45mph @ 3500rpm now, and tops out at 46-4800. Speed is in the low 60s, best ever gps was just over 63mph. I don't run it all out that often, so don't have a lot of data.

humbler, those are respectable numbers. I see your info to the left says you have one for sale. Is it on CL? (Didn't mean to hi jack the thread) PM the details if you still have it.
