Default 419 non step with shorties

Has anyone put/tried 2" shorties on a 419 SR-1 non-stepped hull?
Results?

Reading results of other hulls, it seems going to shorties only makes a difference when speeds are in the 80's and up.
But with 3 drives, will the reduced drag of shorties come into play at lower speeds.

imo if trying to go faster better change boat! will cost more to upgrade yours than switch boat!

I know the 419 is anything but fast.
419's are known to be drive breakers.
Partially because most were standard Bravo 1 drives. Not XR's.
If I can get 5mph when I replace my B-1 with XRs and speed master or IMCO lowers, wouldn't it be worth it?

If there is no gain, then it would not be worth the upgrade.

So far, I don't know anyone that has tried different drives on a 419.

Guess that is what I was asking.

As far as upgrades...
540 cid, aluminum heads, custom built Lightning header exhaust, XR uppers on 2 of the 3, DWP late model Bravo 1 lowers, semi-lab 5 blade.
A 70+mph wave crusher that will handle any weather I want to be out in.
With all the creature comforts of home. Heat/Air Genset hot water heater, TV/VCR/DVD, pressure water, shower, vacuum head, sleeps 4 easily. Could do 6 if you are real good friends. OK 8. 😂
Yes it is probably not worth what I have in It. But it is paid for, engines are fresh.
Yes the 382's have the same comforts.
But that isn't what I started with.
So why not upgrade as sh*+ breaks.
That's how I got here to begin with. Crappy Merc exhaust leaked and destroyed one motor. Bent rods, cracked heads, broke valves, and block had to be bored to clean up cylinder damage. So why not build what you want when replacing it. Cost is darn near the same to build a stroker as it is to go back original.
Plus I had 2 - 540's from my 272 that ran low 80's. So build one, swap 2, sell 272 and have $20k difference to move up from a 272 to a 419? Seemed like a good move to me at the time.
So to revise the original question.
Has Anyone tried or heard of any 419 mods that have worked?

I owned a 97 419 fastec with 525 SC's . Loved the boat, 83 mph, waive crusher, air, gen, hot water, etc. That said, I would think you will need to look into set-back boxes for the boat. I rebuilt a 357 (went from kamma's to bravos). I installed the IMCO boxes and they ran about $2500.00 each. I thought they were a good fit for the 357 as I raised the x-dimension for the bravos about 2" higher than stock and still covered the old holes from the kammas. I did this so I didn't have to totally re-build the transom, worked great. The other thing I liked about the imcos is they had a long drive shaft that was designed to twist under load which absorbed the torque from the engines I had. I think I was running about 500 hp and the 357 ran 71 mph gps which is pretty good for that boat. If you went with the IMCO boxes, you wouldn't have to buy shorty drives. Just a thought! Good Luck, great boat, miss mine.

I topped 76 with a set of 28 bravo1's, so that sounds like close to where I'm at.
I figure the fastec is worth 5-7mph with the steps.

I'm guessing the setback would help me, but not sure I want to mess with rear engine mount. Seems to me to put in an IMCO setback the rear mount needs raised about 1
-2".

I like your move up Opie272.
Did your 419 come from the eastern part of the states? I saw one that kind of fit that mo.
We love all the creature comforts of our 419 also and I believe it rides better than a 382 after driving both. My power is all stock 415HP 502MPI with B1's and stepped which will do around 70. I think it will do a little over 70 with some proper service and corrections of some running issues. I saw a stepped 419 with 700's that broke 110 but that is the only one I know of for mods. An SR1 419 sold in Canada that had 600's but I didn't drive it so I can't speak to what it did.
I am temped to do 540's with mine if anything needs major work and maybe boost them to the 700 mark. The drives would be the next thing to deal with and I am not sure which way I would go there yet so for now we are just enjoying it as is.
Good luck with yours and I am very interested in what you do, watching.

Ever think about selling all your motors and drives and going to a pair of 750s and some real drives (not xr's) ?

No way, not me anyway. I would re rig and "reverse" the triples before dropping back to two. After driving these triples I love this config.
