Fastest Formulas

Alright let's see them just for fun...

Post up the fast ones. We know they aren't the fastest boats on the water but they damn sure are some of the best. I've seen a handful of upper 90mph showroom stock boats with 700s or Ilmor 725s but there's gotta be some of you guys that can't leave well enough alone :) Lets see your boat, speed, and power

jwurl 07-16-2016 11:37 AM

Great thread. Thought about posting the same thing many times. I have seen a couple 382 Fastechs with 1000hp per side but never heard of actual top speeds. I personally have a 271 Fastech with 713hp Holley EFI 540ci which runs right around 85 on GPS. Jeff Wurl

J-Bonz 07-16-2016 12:19 PM

Lake Effect has a pretty bad formula running above 100mph

t500hps 07-17-2016 07:55 AM

I had a 382 with Procharged 500's. Ran a best of 98.

racinfast002 07-18-2016 10:51 AM

My 312 with twin whippled 454's MPIs runs 88 on GPS. Not the fastest, but fast for a Formula. There are probably a few things I could do to go faster, but I haven't felt the urge to do that just yet.

Gary P 07-18-2016 03:56 PM

My brother's 353 w/500 EFI's, standoff boxes with a 2" shorty (I think), labbed props, ran 87 MPH when lghtly loaded. Great ride though, even if it wasn't the fastest.

For fun How about top speed in 3'+ ?
This is where I was always happy I was in a Formula.

Chaos, that silver arneson had 540cu motors like mine, high 80s, it was for sale 2 years ago.

Supposedly dyno'd at 1250HP? Seems like 2500HP should get it faster than high 80's? :)

Top speed has been ZERO! Fire that thing up before it needs another 50K worth of work. They don't like to sit you know!

Did you ever notice that the screw in the dash was not lined up right.

Doesn't that make the boat pull to one side? :)

whistler 07-22-2016 07:11 PM

It still amazes me how quickly I got comfortable going 80+ after owning a 21'r that only went 50. I'd feel safe in my 382 at a 100+. It's the most solid go fast boat I've ever been in. Now that premium is less then 2.50 we go fast a lot more often.

CBlakeNS 07-22-2016 10:22 PM

God that thing is sexy.

I had a 272SR1 with twin Whippled 454s with Dart CNC'd heads, custom cams Stainless Marine Gen3 exhaust and Imco shorties that gps's at a 101, I've had many boats but that one was probably the most fun of all.

Installing an Autometer GPS Speedo in my 311 today...new build, been playing with props/rpm. New set of props this weekend too....let ya all know! 735hp/side, Konrad 540 PRS drives....HEAVY boat! lol

Full Force 08-05-2016 08:06 AM

Not that heavy really, I am curious to see results, we saw 80 on GPS with a TRS 311 with around 600 a side, wonder if the hull will limit speed or not, I know the deep drives do, I predict 84 mph

Bet your close:D yep, far from the "slickest" hull on the lake! Like the ole girl though!

Have you run it yet? How is the setup? Please post videos or pictures, we're all curious, it's a nice project. Have fun, and be safe over 80mph!

TAStevens 08-05-2016 09:08 AM

Hey Justin, nice to hear from ya, We have had it in the water, only up to 4500rpm, not propped right yet, throwing another set on this weekend. Sorting out little "bugs"....EVERYTHING is new but the paint! literally! Upholstery came out sweet! Those Drives are sweet too! Transmissions shift smooth as can be, but I heard Hueber went out of Business?? Full Hydraulic steering is nice, glad ya talked me into adding that! Forgot to mention (this will get some of ya going):lolhit: I have always been a fan of MSD products (were a Sponsor in my Funny Car days)....Have read SO SO much BAD on hear about their Marine stuff...yep...lost a Box after 4 hours...****!:angry-smiley-038:

frickstyle 08-05-2016 09:19 AM

You have a really nice setup. You're probably at the upper limit of those drives with a heavy boat too. Just maintain them and should be fine. Those trans are way overbuilt, they should last forever. I will dig up the phone number I had from the guy who worked on them. He could have shut down, but I believe he was the guy who bought Huber's book of business, and tools, etc.

Glad you added hyd steering, makes a big difference, it's a great upgrade, and safe too.

I'm sure you have a rocket, probably sounds good too. Happy for you, these projects are fun and suck at the same time! (I'm currently on the sidelines after about 15 hours on the water this season) Good luck!

TAStevens 08-05-2016 09:26 AM

I did "open up" the Silent Thunder boxes, definitely sounds better! Not obnoxious by any means!

aquaforce 08-09-2016 02:14 AM

I saw the pics and read about a 419 FASTech that a marine service got up to 110 running triple 700HP's. That is so tempting for me to do that too. I would stroke my 502's to 540's then boost them for the remaining power to keep a lower valve train and engine stress compared to na.

Here is a youtube video of the boat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7h5AYylNU4Q

jwurl 08-09-2016 09:58 AM

I thought it was figured out that that 419 is in Canada therefore the speedometer was in kilometers . No way it could excellerate that fast in mph. There is a 419 with triple 1000s on eBay and it says it does somewhere around 100 mph . Jeff Wurl

110 in Kilometers is 68mph and my 419 FASTech with triple 415HP does 70mph. This boat with factory 525SC does 84mph ish so it responds well to HP and triple 700's should do at least what twin 700's does in a 382. I don't doubt 110mph with 700's.
I can't find the ebay boat with triple 1000's. It should roll very well over the century mark but that would not be a good selling point considering insurance stipulations.

frickstyle 08-10-2016 07:49 AM

Boat in video, aren't those 502 Mags? Probably not 700hp. 2100hp to get that thing to 100mph? I guess it's possible, but that thing is pretty heavy, especially rigged with triples. 110mph with that setup, .........

jwurl 08-10-2016 08:53 AM

Boat on eBay has triple 950s and it says it runs 90. It is a straight bottom 419 . Item # 142066817614. Nicest 419 I have ever seen. Jeff Wurl

If you look closer there are prochargers bolted to the right of the engines. I had to take a second look too!

I agree with Frick. The 382s with 700s do low 90s real world, one on Lake Erie right by us.Takes big power to get a 382 to 100mph let alone a 419 triple. Formula Fastech's hit a wall at low 90's and need a big push to get them over the 100MPH hump. Not a knock just my observation from owning one.
