Default Stripping hull graphics

Anyone ever strip the graphics off a formula? I know people do it on other boats but wondering how it goes with a formula since its imron paint.

Once you do strip them, the graphics will look like a shadow forever. The Gelcoat actually bleaches out in the sun so the gel that has been hiding under the imron will be a bit darker.

Yeah so thats like how it is with cars too. Once you polish the existing paint, it is matched to what was under the vinyl graphics or painted on graphics. So many nice older formulas but those pink, teal, purple colors deter me from them. And then the interior colors would be a whole other big money project.

You can polish, sand, whatever.... it will still show where the graphics were. In some cases you will actually feel it raised where they once were.

Many guys succesfully replace just the color they are unhapoy with. Instead of pink black looks pretty good with pretty much any of the other colors or even a gray.

older the worse it is. I ripped off the decals on a 02 last year on a Chaparral I had. 10ft away you couldn't see it, but you could up close and could feel it. Older boat that's seen a lot of son will be worse. Im in the process of boat shopping for the next two years and some of the teal/purple schemes turn me off just like what bajas do.

Oh so, they just paint the graphics a different color. Sounds like the best option. I thought of just getting them wrapped with something.

It can be done but it will take some elbow grease! I had my hull soda blasted to remove the blue paint that was on mine. I then had to wet sand the entire boat 5-6 times at different grits to bring the whole thing back uniform. It did come back but tons of work!

Once it was virgin gelcoat I did a partial wrap on it!
