Wave height is like fish stories, they are always up to the mind to recall with some precision, but who cares. It's fun to go out and test the boat and bang through some big waves.
Wave height is trough to crest, that's what the article says and it's how NOAA measures it. If you look, there's probably a weather buoy close by that would tell with some precision what the wave height is. |

You should probably re-read the article. A wave measured 5' from trough to crest would be considered a 10 footer. So if he was in 5 footers they would be 2.5' waves.

I love wave height discussions
Of course I'm always the guy that says it's only 1 footers, quit being a puzzy...then my microwave, fridge, and the wife's 17 suitcaeses end up on the cabin floor. Come to think of it, maybe my judgement is off :D |

I believe you're the one who needs to re-read it. The article talks about "perceptions", what people "perceive" as 6 footers are actually 3's. This does not change the fact that the "actual" wave height is measured from the trough to the crest.

So if a 5 footer is really a 10 footer and a real 5 footer is only a 2.5 footer for you Formula guys , should I assume, as a Fountain guy, that a 5 footer is a 15 footer, Beak and platform factored in, and a real 5 footer is but a ripple in real terms. In these aforementioned cases anyFountain would smoke your Formula azz in all of the above mentioned cases assuming that a wave measured from trough to crest at 5 feet is considered to be real 10 footer. So if anyone in 5 footers would perhaps think their azz was in 2.5 footers. |
Fives are twos on OSO! ;)
