This is how we move about. Superduty does well.

Enforcement Officer as in DOT
When I was looking to buy this boat I was pretty skeptical about the quad axle trailer, I thought for sure it would turn like crap. It really isn't any different than a tri-axle trailer and it does pull nice.

How does that dully pull the 400? I'm looking to get into a 400 in the spring and was wondering about towing it... I kind of figured I would need a Kodak / f650 or a sport chassis.... how tall is that on the trailer? What does it weigh?

The gas V-10 dully does fine pulling it. My last boat was a 47 Fountain so weight wise it is no different to me but at 13' 4" tall and 11' wide you really have to pay attention.

alindquist 12-04-2016 05:26 PM

I was concerned it would be too tall, I'm looking for one with a hard top...

The boat probably gets better mileage than that gas v10 does....

Barrydet 12-04-2016 07:50 PM

Yes sir, specialized in commercial vehicle enforcement. I noticed the little things like: flags on projecting loads, "oversize load" markings as required by overlength/overwidth permit authorities.

Before this trip to Utah I studied the oversize load requirements of the states I would be traveling thru and I think I was legal to a "T". I figured pulling a trailer with quad axles would be a unwanted attention getter. :hitfan:

You might want to check but I am sure the hard top is like a foot taller than with out. If that is so it would put you over 14' which is a different set of rules to pull.

Yeah my V10 gets 7 - 8 MPG depending on hills.

Ozarkdevil, that's an impressive rig!! Sweet boat. I don't think I ever saw a quad axle before. Very cool!

official update. New bruiser in the barn!!

I will know more after driving it some more, but the 900+ ft lbs of torque is absolutely awesome. The new Dmax rocks. i will be hooking up a trailer to it early next week for a trip to Michigan, and we will see how it performs with a 7k trailer behind it. It will not know that it is there, as the capacity is way more than 7k, but will see mpg etc. The ram air is nicely done too. Air goes in the hood into a big chamber, with a scupper drain, then crosses over to the passenger side of the engine compartment, and then transfers from the hood to intake runners. It is very functional for sure. Can't wait to get it broken in and then see what it can do. I can already tell that the performance will be a big step up....will see soon.

Love it, that is what I'm wanting to get next.

Splitdecision271 12-23-2016 09:51 AM

must be a Formula thing with GMCs. Definitely is with FOONJ. I picked up a summit white 2500HD in April. IDCE grabbed a 3500HD a few months before that. These trucks are beasts.

just towed my 292 down to Florida and back. Avg 12.7 on way back, but had times on the way down was getting 16MPG for my last 50miles. curious if the ram air will help get any better. wonder if there is a conversion for my 2016.

I guess I'm just the cheapo of the group. Running an old 6 cylinder.

By any chance, do you happen to know the height of that boat on the trailer. Ground to top of windshield. I am in the process of buying a '97 271 and this would be some good info to have. If not, thanks anyways.

Bob

PS, I also have an '08 Tundra for towing.

It's a RAM - LOL

About 9700 lbs, not to concerned with the new 1500's - lots of brake and frame compared to early 2000 trucks. I maintain my trailer (unlike that picked up the boat from the previous owner), had no brakes and crap tires and stopped without issue when I got the boat.

Used my old 2012 V-6 Durango to pull my 280SS, since i saw it towing the 280SS in one of the Dodge commercials (used it for local towing only though - like a bit more track and wheelbase for the long freeway drives).

Guess I'll add a couple of the current setup. One from the day I picked up the boat, and another after it was finally warm enough to break it out! Can't wait for spring...

2015 2500HD Duramax. Wayne at Line-X of Brighton, Mi custom mixed the gray Line-X on the rockers to match the trim on the 330SS. I added a full length black nerf bar later, but have no pics of that.
