you might wanna confirm an SS camper will fit an LS.. the cockpit being different size i'm betting it won't, at least not without some modifying.

Redneckcustoms13 12-19-2016 02:12 PM

What would be different? The windshield is the same. I thought the engine compartment was just a little different size sun pad and had back to back passenger seating?

bbender785 12-19-2016 02:28 PM

the cockpit area is bigger on the SS; windshield is further forward. it may work, you might just have some slack.. i don't know what all is involved in a camper top.

GLENAMY 242SS 12-19-2016 02:32 PM

Windshield is about 1-1/2 to 2' further forward on SS

Redneckcustoms13 12-19-2016 02:37 PM

Well it looks like it was meant to be for you then Mr Gary.

Redneckcustoms13 12-19-2016 06:29 PM

Finished up getting all lights working. Only 1 of them isn't. Where can I get the socket with 2 wires that mounts in the doors on the interior? It holds a #90 bulb.

Redneckcustoms13 12-19-2016 07:51 PM

Mr Gary it was nice to talk with you on the phone. Its nice to know thwre are othet people out there that share the same devotion to a project.

That is 4 little led bulbs I salvaged from some broken lights at work.

masi242 12-20-2016 06:40 PM

Yes, Gary is a great guy to talk to very knowledgeable about Formulas, Red with winter here for us northerns its great to see pics and find out what your doing with your new ride, keep it up.

Redneckcustoms13 12-20-2016 06:45 PM

I hope to dip it in the water for a little ride friday if all goes well. I'm torn between ~$450 for a bimini or $120 for a taylormade anchor shade. Are any of you guys using one? I'd really like to see what one looks like when tied on a formula.

Redneckcustoms13 12-20-2016 07:48 PM

Also a picture of how the bilge blowers are set up properly in these hulls would be great. I figured out why mine doesn't work. THEY WENT AWOL! I've been opening the hatch to crank it. Can't believe the guy didn't put them back in after painting and the new engine went in.

Mr Maine 12-20-2016 08:01 PM

blowers (2) mount vertically on the starboard side with hoses going down into the bilge. So whats it run? what prop is on it?

Redneckcustoms13 12-20-2016 08:04 PM

So 2 blowers both blowing out?
Havent ran it yet other than on hose. It has a 4 blade 19p prop.

GLENAMY 242SS 12-20-2016 08:19 PM

Hunter, I bet Sick Stinger may have the correct blowers as he is parting out a Formula now. Check with MASI242 on pics of blower/hose/direction I bet he has some. Glad you found the name of the shade cover. Looking great.

Redneckcustoms13 12-20-2016 08:23 PM

I have 4 blowers in the big yard ornament searay just want to make it as close to factory as possible. Thanks for the tips! Is there a better hose type than the white dryer vent looking stuff?

We use an Anchor Shade on the Cigarette and love it. I'd actually rather have it than the bimini top since I do not really like having the top up when running.

Redneckcustoms13 12-20-2016 08:59 PM

Have any pictures of it being used on your cig?

Haven't seen one in person. Are those 4 straps off the corners adjustable?

TomZ 12-20-2016 09:12 PM

Yes. All four are adjustable, and the umbrella pole is also adjustable.

Redneckcustoms13 12-20-2016 09:19 PM

Thst may have just made the final decision for me. The only time I see a bimini being useful running is if I'm on a lake all day and the kids are getting burnt. But thats what the berth is for.

phughes69 12-21-2016 10:45 AM

Red, Ill be coming down to Mobile March 11-19 with my Formula. Be nice to connect with you and have you show me the good and not so good areas of Mobile Bay and dauphin island. I plan on running mine out into the Gulf and everywhere else.

Patrick

Redneckcustoms13 12-21-2016 10:48 AM

Sounds good Patrick. I don't do much in the bay I spend most of my time up mobile and tensaw river delta. But I venture out a little to the causeway. I'd like to make a dauphin island run as well that would be fun.

[QUOTE=phughes69;4511665]Red, Ill be coming down to Mobile March 11

Patrick, please post your comments on the trip. I am seariously thinking of a couple weeks trip to the area later next year. Any ideas of places you plan to go with boat?
Sounds like a good time.

Redneckcustoms13 12-22-2016 02:15 PM

Bad news is I'm not off tomorrow like work schedule said I was. Good news is they gave us all $100 walmart gift cards and let us off on monday the 26th.

I instantly blew $77 of that thing on walmart.com. 4- 3/8"x15' dock lines, 4 3/8"x5' lines for bumpers, and last 2 4" bilge blowers.

Redneckcustoms13 12-23-2016 07:50 AM

This boat will get 4 fosgate 8s and 4 6.5s. Boils down to needing a true 800rms amp to feed them. Talking with some of my old stereo shop buddies they have had very good luck with the budget builds using a brand known as "rockville" one of them bench tested this particular amp that claims to be 400 rms per chanel at 4 ohm (2 channel) he said it actually backed up the claim and put about 407 watts out at 4 ohm. That should tickle the little speakers just right. Also it can run 1 ohm per channel in stereo mode claiming closer to 750 rms per channel.
Best part $114! Low power consumption. And better yet a 1 year warranty and WATER RESISTANT! it should be here next week to see how it does.

TomZ 12-23-2016 09:37 AM

Interested to see how your audio project works out.

I went simple with mine... I have a Pioneer bluetooth HU connected to a Alpine PDX-5M, 4 - Alpine 7-inch marine coaxials in the cockpit, two hidden Polk 10's in the gunwale storage, and a pair of Pioneer 6.5's (connected to the HU) in the cabin. The birth-sheet for my Alpine PDX shows 125W per channel on the stereo side (rated at 75W RMS) and 410W on the sub channel (rated at 300W RMS). It sounds great; very punchy with good lows. And the really good thing is that it doesn't draw the power that a conventional amp does so we're able to listen to it for longer periods. I might add more to it over the next season. We'll see.

Good luck with your build!

Redneckcustoms13 12-23-2016 09:45 AM

this one will be quite simple as well. no head unit just rca/3.5mm being fed from phone. i found a head unit is more of a pain than its worth when all we listen to is pandora and spotify anyway. i will keep the 1994 double din that is in the berth and let it power 2 6.5s and 2 6x9s in the berth. however the cockpit will have the 8 mid range speakers. i have a few fosgate marine 12s but dont really want to take up that much room in the boat with them. i will have the gunwales partially occupied by 4 bumpers, tons of ropes, a tube, tow rope, 2 anchors, other various objects that my woman cant live without... i really would like to put a sub somewhere but i will see how just mids do for now. having a simple 4 speaker set up in the berth on a head unit will be good for when we are sleeping or dodging rain. the cockpit will be for driving and when we are hanging out with friends.

Got it in today for a quick littlw test run.

http://i604.photobucket.com/albums/t...223_153509.jpg

Idle up to 3200 smooth. Above that (basically when secondarys open) busted up and misfiring. Open hatch. Water is on the bottom of sun pad and on dist cap and coil. Look in carb and see water. Dry all that. Same but alight improvement. Cruise at 3200 rpm (34mph gps) try again a few times and it has cleared up. Less than ecstatic it only ran 56mph at 5200rpm. Feels like it wants more wheel on it. Dropped back to cruise. Try again a few minutes later Misfire again. Gonna change plugs and check out cap/ rotor and run again monday. All in all I'm happy with it. Just for some reason felt it would be closer to 60.

79formula 12-23-2016 06:54 PM

It takes alot of HP to make these birds fly.
My buddies 242 with the hook in the hull, 300hp 454, runs 52mph.
My 242 with 420hp, hook removed, ran 62mph.
My 242 with 572hp, hook removed, now runs 73mph.

Redneckcustoms13 12-23-2016 06:59 PM

Mine should be 420-425 hp I was really hoping for 60. I didn't hold it down long but I know it can spin more prop. I feel it could do 60 with the right prop.

Any idea why the bottom of the sunpad, dizzy, and rear of carb would be wet after running a few mins? I would think it was dry it hasn't been wet in months

Redneckcustoms13 12-23-2016 07:35 PM

Looked up the part number on the prop. It is a mercury revolution 14 5/8 x 19 4 blade. What would you guys think to be the next size up that wouldn't just kill it?

GLENAMY 242SS 12-23-2016 08:28 PM

"Any idea why the bottom of the sunpad, dizzy, and rear of carb would be wet after running a few mins? I would think it was dry it hasn't been wet in months "
Hunter, any water accumulation in bilge? Water IN the carb?

Redneckcustoms13 12-23-2016 08:33 PM

Water in carb was from sucking through air filter. Very little just saw it beading on carb butterfly. Yes there was some in the bilge I pumped out for about 15-20 seconds when using bilge pump. I had it idling while tied up and looked all around and nothing was dripping. I guess I'll have to look harder.

Redneckcustoms13 12-23-2016 08:44 PM

Gary I wonder if this might be that the hose for the speedo is broken and spraying in the bilge while running...?

GLENAMY 242SS 12-23-2016 08:51 PM

That may be it. Do you have a GoPro?

GLENAMY 242SS 12-23-2016 08:57 PM

You could remove the hose where it connects to the lower portion of outdrive.

79formula 12-23-2016 09:11 PM

Without knowing the specs of your motor, its hard to tell if a prop change will help you. Putting a taller prop will lower rpms, negating the increase in pitch.
