Anyone know the difference. I was poking around yachtworld and saw a 242LS and a 242 SR1 and the look the same. Just curious.

I believe the seating arrangement is about the only difference , other than the fact the a few 242 SR1's were made with twin small blocks

The 242 LS was also available with twins. I have one.

Is this the case with the 272's as well? They are the same hull but different interiors?

1987 was first year of SR-1 designation for the 242. The 242-SR1 is a model designation for the (2)260HP/350 engine package. This engine/drive package was offered in previous years, but not in SR1 designation.The LS & SS models models became designations for the single engine model of the 242. The seating arrangement layout is different in a 242 LS vs SS. In 1986/87 Formula began SR1 designation for their performance models. But, they didn't use the SR1 designation initially on all performance models. By '87 all performance models had SR1 designation.The 242 SR1 package with twin small blocks was last offered in 1988. From 1989-on, a 242 was only available with a single big block, until the model was discontinued.

The hull running surface is the same (not sure about the hook though) the big change was in the windshield the LS has a squared off windshield. The SR1 has the curved glass that blends with the fiberglass running down the side. This made quite a dramatic change in the boats look. The helm and cabin have a more updated look to them as well. You can't go wrong with an LS or a SR1 they are both classics. I have a 89' 272 SR1 if there is anything you want to know about it let me know.

Russ SR1, I don't think the SR1 designation necessarily had anything to do with windshield shape. The curved windshileds started across the entire line in 1987. Prior to that I think only the larger models had curved windshields and I think that was only in 1986 (maybe). Prior to that, everything was square. So.....not that it really matters or anything, but I believe model year was the deciding factor in whether or not the boats had curved or straight windshlields.

I thought the difference between the LS and SR1 was the LS had swivel seats and the SR1 had stand up bolsters. SS was completely different with a different deck mold that gave it a bigger cockpit and smaller cabin and engine hatch. Swivel seat for the driver, and back to backs on the portside
