[QUOTE=PA.WOODCHUCK;4739509]Google this, it handles the ram load amps and the up/down switch controls this relay. slow ram issue solved!
Easy install and neat

This relay system will work with the way the double pole switch on the dash currently operates the hatch motor?

Did you just spice this relay system into the system this shortening the power supply to the actuator or did you also increase wire size too? What size did you use?

Appreciate the information,
Chris

I used 12ga wire for powering the replay, your wiring from the switch is OK since it only operats the relay now. If need explanation PM with your phone number. I used a 20amp circuit breaker but mine only draws 10amp running the hatch up.

Thanks Woodchuck!

It's so annoying to see people post a question like this one, get help and suggestions from their fellow boaters, then never return to follow up and/or post their results. :) I'm happy to report that I tested the hatch ram by going direct to a battery and the hatch worked great. So I installed a double relay using the existing 2 wires in the bilge coming from the switch as the trigger. I used 14 gauge wiring with a 20 Amp fuse, and now my hatch goes up in 18 seconds flat. I have never owned a boat with a hatch this fast.

Thanks again, and special thanks to Ted G and liberator221

Just completed that relay install. Great idea and the perfect solution. That solved the problem.

Kept my same wire leads from the hatch ram, which it looked like they were 10 or 8 gauge already. Then spliced some 12 gauge to the original leads that came from the switch. Then I used 8 gauge leads from battery to the relay, installing a inline fuse that had 12 gauge wire to between battery and relay.

Thanks guys.

Last follow up item. I used a self reset 20A circuit breaker.

Just did in line fuse on mine, wish I had found a breaker like that. Very clean looking.

Two previous boats I owned had this type of breaker which resets if it trips. So I decided to go that route on the Formula.
