Reposting here since I didn't get any answers in General Q & A, does anyone know what these cans are that are welded to my tails on 1990 357 SR1 420/TRS? First time I have seen them so I am curious.

Mufflers or baffles maybe. Any lines going to them?

Negative on the lines, I don’t feel like pulling it apart to see so I was hoping someone would know.

My guess would be some type of muffler, since the flapper is usually in the tail piece. What else would you do to an exhaust?

I vote for muffler, or a flux capacitor

I always install the flux capacitor on the shifter. easy to get to.

That's what I am leaning too as well, just "baffles" me as to why you would need additional mufflers with the silent thunder platform.

I like my flux capacitors spinning outward.

On a side note, I opened up the silent thunder platform as I have all previous birds and this boat much quieter than ones in the past. I am going to have a closer look when I put the tails to put in new gaskets and plates - might end up cutting the off to let her exhale a little better.

Let the bird breathe!!!! I was so happy once i finally pulled the box off. I like the looks of it but at the same time I love the new aluminum platform.

I wouldn’t cut them off. I’m sure Mike Mello or Gordon Demarco have the other tailpipes. Maybe you could set up a trade? Hardin makes news ones that should bolt on.

They are mufflers had them on my 402 when i bought it. Has baffles in the center exhaust flows around the outside.

They can be cut.off if your careful. Cut. The muffler just past the weld but don't cut thru the tail. And it will slide off.

What did you end up doing about this!?! The wife might not be happy with how loud everything now is with the new setup. Had it in the water for the first time today. I told the wife the reason it has to be that loud is so I don’t hear her saying slow down. I got the look haha. Deep down inside I know she enjoys it tho.

I haven't fooled with it yet. I was trying to get through this season without modifying anything but it's becoming harder to stick to that thought. I have been wanting to at least pull my ST off so it would give me motivation to cut the mufflers off. I was watching videos of my previous Formula's and I miss the noise!
