New owner of 1988 Formula 292 SR-1 - Need Help!
I really hope someone could help me. I just bought a 1988 292 SR-1 Twin 502's. Here is my big issue. I ran a boat history report and everything came back clean, the only issue I have is there is no record that Formula even built a 292 in 1988. Any time you look the boat up it never shows 1988. Not even in Formulas brochure from 1988. I cannot get insurance from anyone because of this. I really hope someone could help me.

Try looking under Thunderbird 292 SR-1
Formula web site shows 1989 as 1st year for 292 SR-1
last two digits of hull number will tell you year
Last 2 digits are 88. I have tried everything. Formula told me it was correct as 1988 292 SR-1. But they have not responded to multiple emails asking why it does not show up anywhere as a 1988
The mystery continues, this may have been one of the first 292 SR-1's ever built. It was purchased in Feb 1988. Formula is looking into it some more. Hope they find something because right now I may need to sell it if I cannot get insurance for it.

My 1988 292SR1 was the same way. There is no record of the 292’s being offered in 1988 only manufactured in 1988 but mine had the 1988 Badge on the side and 88 in the VIN number.
it seems it wasn’t marketed until 1989. Interested to see what Formula comes back with. My 292 is now down in Jacksonville, FL. I would to buy it back. Had my favorite color/graphics package. |
Id think if the title or document and HIN match someone would insure it, the production sequence # should show in the HIN if you want to post it
F-2 I sent you the HIN
I can't share pics. Wish I could to show you all the things I have tried. Screen shots that is

Great looking boat.
Boat runs great. Everything functions. Took it out multiple times.

Next step is to get the whole interior redone in all white. I also have it scheduled to get all the colored painted parts stripped. Once done it will be a fresh canvas
I was going to wrap the boat but decided to just restore it to all white on the outside

man, I don’t know. It looks pretty sharp as it is. Be careful, you don’t want to be mistaken for a Bayliner. Lol |
Do you think its a bad idea to take all the color off? I thought it would look good all white.
Well, you got AlWhite scared.
That is really a quite nice color scheme as is. |

I saw 2 last weekend on Lake Barkley/Kentucky Lake, one was, I believe, 382 and the other was a 357. I was looking closely as I was wanting your boat. Only seen a handfull of this scheme. I would leave the upholstery and exterior graphics stock. Just my .02
