Bravo 1 inner shield/flywheel mount issue!
Hi all,
about to install my 1990 Merc 7.4, I have the "new style" inner shield with pre-fitted rubber mounts (where the engine flywheel housing sits) and I just cant find the correct install components where/if necessary.
I've NOT replaced the flywheel housing bushes yet, though I can if need be.
Can anyone tell me:
do I need the fibre washer and spring washer for this new inner shield? (I've heard all sorts of answers). "yes, but not washer, no but keep washer a put in a shim"...
In my opinion the fitting process as follows:
bolt - washer - spacer - mount (in flywheel housing) - "rubber mount (shield) - spring washer - captive nut. ???
Can someone please give me the correct install component guide if known! This would be very much appreciated.
many thanks.

Hi AllDoge,
well, its part of the inner transom ring, there is a horseshoe shaped (pre-set from factory) fitted around the bolt hole (where the flywheel housing sits), i cant upload a pic but a google search will show this set up:
type: new style mercruiser inner transom plate rubber washer
look under images
any help, again, appreciated.

Hi AllDodge,
Thanks for this, yes I'd seen this diagram online. You are correct that it shows that the spring washer is obsolete.
However the prob I have is, although I do have the fibre washer from old set up, the new inner shield will not allow me to place the fibre washer (as the rubber is formed onto the shield) I will either need to cut off this rubber to place the fibre washer OR leave the rubber in place and replace mounts (in flywheel housing) with the new style knurled ones.
Damn mercruiser!

Apologies, I cant upload a pic - not enough posts lol..yet.
If you can find an image in google or there is a thread somewhere on here with an image best describes.
The inner mount (ring), with a horse shoe shaped rubber washer on the ear/tabs/bolt holes.
