292 SR1 with 1250HP
Hey guys I’m building a 292 SR1 with 625HP a side and was wondering what kind of speed would I get out of it. Also the transom is notched as well. Should I run 4 or 5 blade props too? Thanks for all input
|
Going to need a lot more info to be able to answer those questions.
what year is the boat Have you measured prop shaft height? what drives? 625 hp at what rpm? Dyno with marine accessories and exhaust? |
Bravo 1 drives. The motors were dyno fully dressed. Peak HP was like 5500. Torque was 610 at 4200rpm
the boats a 1989 |
Distant Thunder had a very healthy 292 a couple years back and may have some info for you. This probably isn’t a light enough boat for 5 blades on bravo drives. I would guess 28-30p Bravo four blades are going to be close. Mid 80’s if you haven’t raised the drives? Should be fun with that power.
|
Who notched the transom? Never seen an sr1 with a transom notch. Was the drive height changed?
should run mid to high 70’s with that power if set up right |
I’m gonna run standard length drives see what kind of speed I can get out of it then same day out 2 inch shorties on it and see how much I pick up and decide if I should buy shorties or not
|
Also gonna try to raise the x dimension as far as possible. I will find out this week how high I can raise it
|
Gonna need some pics here!
|
I will get pics when it’s all back together hopefully within a month
|
My guess 3 blade 27 pitch 80-85?
|
I have talked to b blades about this setup. He said best bang for buck would be bravo 1 four blades. I love the look of 5 blades but no point of wasting money
|
Lord Have Mercy, I look forward to seeing these results. My 292SR1 was my favorite bird so far.
As ph1971 mentioned, I had a 1988 292SR1, BBC with Bravo Drives. No hull modifications, silent thunder removed. If memory serves correctly she ran a best of 74.6 MPH turning box stock 26P Bravo 1 4 Blade Props to ~5100 RPM and she was a consistent low 70's boat fully loaded in the summer heat. Mark IV 454 Mag bottom ends, Isky Cams, Roller Rockers, Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gaps, HP500 Carbs with 78/93 jetting, and Crossovers. That entire boat was set up just right for what I was looking for, even gave TomZ a little surprise when we took her on the final run down in VA beach before the new owner took delivery. I actually try to buy the 292 back from the new owner on a quarterly basis, even have a special fund set aside for the day he wants to sell. Good luck with the build and share some pictures! |

ph1971 is almost spot on with this recommendation but I am not sure how the notch and raised X will influence that selection. If the boat was a stock hull and X I would expect 28P would be about right to hit those RPMs. |
My setup is 502’s gen 6 blocks with crane roller cams w 629 lift. Crane gold roller rockers. Liberty performance aluminum heads with the bowls porting with 9-1 compression victor jr intakes with 850’s. I have the dyno sheets but don’t know how to post them. I wanna raise the x dimension as high as possible but not sure how much if any
|
There’s a lot involved with raising the x dimension on that boat. If you’re not removing the platform, you’ll need custom tailpipes.

Please stay AWAY from the Gulf coast with those bad boys!!! :-)
Can't wait to hear them sing. |
Can’t wait to see it all together.

My 89 272 ran 84mph with 650hp 540's.
late model bravo 1's @5600 RPM. bravo 1 props/Hydromotive 27's labbed. Mopower ran 85/86mph same setup. 292SR-1 should run close to/or a bit better numbers. Hull is better balanced than 272. 272 was very short and butt heavy for BBC setups. once you get past 78-80 the Hull is above stabilization pads. 3"flat section at outer most of V bottom. so it will chine walk a bit. if it gets to walking, let off throttle enough to stabilize Hull, then throttle up. OR drop a trim tab enough to lay Hull on one side of V to stabilize it. then raise tab as you get past chine walk |
I’m hoping to get 85 out of it as well a cruise at 50-55 at 3500rpms we shall see

How the hell did I miss this thread?!
Eager to see the finished product. I have similar builds, 509s, AFR heads, etc. Can you upload pics of the notch? A few of us know a guy in NJ with a notched-transom 311. Engines are also raised to change the X-dimension. The boat runs in the mid 90s with 625 a side (might be 650 a side). |
Any updates?

Hey guys sorry I haven’t logged in awhile been busy w work. The guy u are talking about w the formula 311 with the 540’s w the ***** from NJ is a family friend who is doing the boat. Started working on it this week so hopefully it will be in the water soon. Any more updated pics I’ll get them posted
|
I think I’ve seen the discussion on FB.
Edit: I meant to add more when replying earlier. I was busy and hit reply too quickly. Sounds like it's going to be a bad-ass set-up. I'll look for the results in the SR1 group on FB but be sure to post here too so that everyone can see. |
Any further progress on this?
