I just looks big on the trailer is all.
|
It does look big even in person on the trailer. Its the perfect size for my needs. Mostly want to run from Vancouver to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. The crossing is via a sea and can get rough at times.

Its only 35ft, looks bigger in person. I found a 04 38 Fountain lightning at a price below market. I'm going to see if I can look at that today as an alternative.
I had my 357 in some snotty 3-4 footers the other weekend, we were running 42-48 MPH and didn’t spill my drink. |
I really like the 357SR1, but the one I'm looking at needs to come down in price with the work it needs. The 04 Fountain Lightning that I found is priced about $30k below market value retail and is a great deal. Almost too good to pass on.

Depends on what you want. There’s a pretty big difference in these two boats. If you’re looking at a 04 Lightning, it really doesn’t make sense to be looking at a 357. They’re not even in the same class in terms of performance and build (old vs new). A FasTech is more comparable.

The lightning is more money, but priced so low, its a no brainer. Seller is a hockey player and is buying a new one. Wants the old one gone fast.
|
The 357 seller got back to me. He's drastically dropped the price because its nearing the end of the season. Now I need to meet with my bank because want both boats and need a new truck too. Its a holiday here Monday, so can't see my bank until Tuesday.

Any updates?

Waiting on surveyor now on the Formula and Fountain. Got the Formula down price wise to a more market price. But its an 89 and needs a survey or it could be a giant paper weight.

Buy something newer, you'll be out the same money in the end. There are no free lunches in this sport. Only difference is you will have 1/2 the boating time with the old boat because you'll be spending more time trying to keep it running than enjoying it.
If you want an old boat wait until you find some sucker that spends $50K-100K on his full restoration only to sell it for 1/2 what he put into it. What's it worth? Whatever the parts are worth less cost to sell, my guestimate is around $40K. But I wouldn't pay that cause its an old boat and I like to boat more than I like to wrench. |
