My vote is also 383 with a small supercharger. Very reliable. A TBS 192 on top would make really good power. You could probably just go with 350s and that combination so long as all is forged down below.
And get this battery **** out of here… |

Please. sure you COULD put a nuke on it. but the radiation shielding would weigh more than the boat.

But, at the end of the day, the 292 is only so big (I know, I have one) and the engine bay already sits 1/2 sunk at idle. So the 'best' upgrade path? New boat.
Otherwise the only thing that comes to mind with your suggestions is this: |
I like those 6.2 motors and think rebuilding that motor and setup for whipple's like the 292 in the link in the article provided in post #13 is best idea for serious power. Those 6.2 motors are hard to find used, probably get good money for them if you wanted to start all over.

you guys are funny I bet you said the same thing about these new fanged horseless carriages.
https://tenor.com/view/old-man-yells...s-gif-17741451 If the boat is worth $50k and you do $30k in modifications, you don't end up with a $80k boat. I bet you could find a better boat for the cost difference. I fully expect boats, houses, cars to drop in price in 2023. A lot of pandemic boats going to be sold from people who bought in 2020ish. |

What about a pair of SC Ilmor 6.2's?
|
Interesting, do you know of anyone who has this engine in use?

I'd say outright they'd be pricey. And it'd be total custom to retrofit in an original Mercruiser Gen 1 boat. Likewise there are LS conversions out there. Probably more in the wild that we never hear about. There has been a few on here pop up from time to time. One guy with a Checkmate that did complete his and another with an Eliminator that had his running, but he tore it down for paint and seems to have stalled. Maybe a few more that we hear about but then never hear it being finished. As I asked before you have a goal in mind or a budget? Your 6.2's can be tweaked pretty well by someone who knows what they are doing if you're after more power. |

Probably not as a retrofit, they are done by Ilmor for MasterCraft wake sport boats.
