271 vs 280ss
#2
I called our local law enforcement on this and they said I would be OK.
I call VA State Police and they said 8'6" and nothing more, but I have never been stopped. You're just taking a chance and the 280SS with it's low profile doesn't look that big on a trailer, an officier would really have to be having a bad day to ticket you.
I have measured my 280SS and at the transom it's not really over 8"6". Of course if an officier asked, I wouldn't advise telling him it's 9'3" at the widest part.
I was concerned about the same thing and didn't let it stop me from buying and trailering what I wanted, and I know of others on the board who are trailering 330SS.

Hey Jim H. ,
I'd also like to get the 370SS. Need to wait a couple years though. The first production year was 2001 and I need to buy a used one several years old to get in my price range.
Last I recall you were trailing with a Tahoe, have you moved up. If not just go ahead and get the 370SS and you won't have to worry with trailing anymore.

hi familyman,
iam going to keep the 280 for at least 2 more seasons and then sell or trade it in
the tahoe is fine for now ,i wouldnt tow my boat to fl.with it
but it's good for around here
been thinking about painting the bottem, had the boat in a lift last year and the guy's not renting it out this year
how much do you think it's going to kill the resale value?

It think it will kill the re-sale. On boattraderonline.com there's a 2000 2800SS with 350 Mags and they have dropped the price of that boat to $65,000 and still can't get rid of it, and it's got the full canvas package, shore power and frig.
It's listed with the dealer I bought my 2001 5.7 efi's from and when I asked him about it the first thing he said was "bottom paint" is killing it.
So I won't do it.

My F-292 SR1 is great in every aspect, except when my wife wants to bring another couple/family
! I've been thinking about a 280SS or maybe a 330SS but I think they are a tad to BIG to trailer around without worrying about all those darn regulations!
