I looked at both the Chaparral 285 and Formula 280SS, both are very quality boats. I think Formula may have a slight edge.
The 285 seemed to have a little bigger cabin and I really liked the thru hull exhaust they put on the side.
I ended up with the 280SS for a couple reasons some big, some small. The formula name I felt would give a better resale value. The Formula seemed to be finished off better, gel coated in all storage components. I liked the fact the seats with access to storage were hinged instead of just placed down and the access to the bow was much easier.
The Chaparral almost had me since you could get more power and a faster boat for the same money as the formula.
But if your looking new anyway that Formula financing is hard to beat.
