Silent Thunder Gasket Replacement
#1
Hello all,
I started my little project over the weekend. It seems that the construction of the single engine platform is different than Rambunctious's twin engine setup. As far as removal, it was simple, two u-bolts on each side and two bolts on the bottom and lift it off. It weighs about 150-200 lbs. I am going to seal everything a little better this week and put it back on next weekend.

Looks Great Craig, You probably already know But, Be sure to use marine grade sealer (plenty) around the "U" bolts when putting them back in. Also, I made up some larger reinforced backing plates out of 5/16 inch stainless to help transom. Works great! Good Luck. Mark

this will be my project when i return from vacation next week
thank's for the tip on sealing bolts mfb357
craig, can you email me those pics as i am too Dutch (ie tight) to pay for the picture membership
i want to buy the gaskets from formula, make bigger plates like mfg, buff then entire transome with the platform off, and then replace, and do some fiberglass repair right around the original plates. previous owner did some work there. needs to be redone.
i have a cherry picker ( engine hoist) that i think will work perfect for the removal. i also have a brand new impact air wrench and 60gallon air compressor that i'm dying to use to get the ubolts off

The boat is a 1990 223. There did not appear to be any rot at all. The only thing that i noticed was that the green skim coat of resin (see pic #3) had a few areas that were pulled away/loose. I cut away those areas and plan on resealing it with a skim coat of 5200. I think I should be done this weekend and it's ready to FIRE UP!!!! I have to tow it down to Norfolk to get John (Maxx) to install hydraulic steering/ dual ram on it in a few weeks.

I finished this weekend. All ready to go boating. I love the feeling after finishing something like this and the thought of saving money by doing it myself. I fired the boat up on sat. without the platform on the boat. WOW it was loud
