The complete 336 thread

I don't think this has been done yet and I think it would be interesting to anyone doing research, I'm starting a thread for each model boat. I'm hoping they will be the complete "guide" to each model. What I'd like to see in it is hard facts about this model only,(length, beam, available power, years produced, numbers produced, colors, pictures, weights, pricing for different years.)

I'd like to keep out the shopping questions. But feel free to put in comments about likes and dislikes, common problems, and results with different power packages. As time permits, I'll troll through old posts and add info collected through the years. If I didn't start a thread for a model you want to see, start one up with the right subject name.

Thanks in advance,
Dave

TTT

Bill, what kind of top speed do you get with HP500's?

Re: The complete 336 thread

Am I correct in thinking that the 336 is a 311 with a molded-in platform and an updated dash/interior? The hull is the same?

Re: The complete 336 thread

I called Formula to ask that same question. I wanted to know to see if I could expect the same type of performance gain that Formula Outlaw got when he switched to Hydromotive Q-IV's. They told me that it is a different hull. Based on the brochures it weighs about 1000# more also.

COBarry - I've seen 74 GPS as top speed, in cool weather with a 1-2' steady chop, 2 people, 1/2 tank, and a summer load of boat crap. There might be another mph or so, but that's also what Formula told me what they got when they tested it. I can get 70-71 anytime. I'm spinning 23" labbed Mirages (not plus) around 5200 rpm with 1.36 bravos. The 75 mph speedo is buried at 70, so I should just leave the GPS off, the electrical draw must be robbing me of 4 - 6 mph. :D

There are faster boats, but I like the balance between speed and liveability since we overnight a lot.

I'm not looking for the fastest boat, just something that will pull 70. I'm more interested in ride comfort at 50 since we'll be in fairly rough water at LOTO.

BTW, the 336 weighs about 8500 lbs, which is 1000 more than the 303 or the 311. Does anyone know where all the extra weight is? Based on the way the boat sits in the water when not under power, it must be forward because there is lots of freeboard aft, unlike a comparably sized Fountain which looks like it's sinking...

A change was made to the design for '95/'96 to provide a notch in the transom; supposedly adds a few mph to top end.

Awesome CO--I like that boat alot!

DMAX 01-25-2010 10:54 AM

Hey, approaching almost five years since the last post in this thread. Any upgrades or stories to add. So far I've gone threw 2 motors, 1 out drive and added a 1000 watt stereo system, def worth the $$$. C'mon whatcha got.

mkole 01-25-2010 04:36 PM

I picked up a 93 out of IL last year. It has factory 525's which from what I hear is kind of rare in this model. I had a 92 336 with 502's & there is no comparison to 525's. I didn't get to use the boat much last year & the speedo doesn't work.
I have heard guys talking about their 95 336's with 525's & speeds of 80mph, anyone know what speed I can expect with my prior model.

Well, that's very interesting. I also called Formula (TAG) when I bought my used Eagle trailer. The trailer was made for a 336. I called, told them I wanted to put my 311 on an Eagle made for a 336. They said it's the exact same hull (as far as the running surface) and that it would sit right on it perfectly. They were right, sits perfect, trails perfect. Here's a picture:

ThirdBird 01-26-2010 11:17 AM

As I recall my conversation with TAG, they said the 336 is a 311 with a molded platform. The hullsides (freeboard) are a little higher and the decking is different, a bit higher. This accounted for the weight difference. Other than that, it's the same boat.

ThirdBird how does the yukon haul that thing? also which motor, 6.0 or 8.1? whats your everyday mileage?

88,
My Yukon hs the 8.1 (496), 373 gears and it does very well. Now, it is at it's rated max for sure but it does tow very well, no lack of power. Towing I get 8-10 mpg depending on hills. Everyday average is about 11 mpg. Interstate cruising (no trailer) at about 68 mph, I get 15 to 15.5 mpg. I'm very happy with it, it's an '04 and only has 40k on it. I don't use it as a daily driver.

I dont think there is a better trailer made ....I wish I could have kept the Eagle trailer that came with my 311...pulled smooth as silk ........m

I totally agree. MYCO's are nice but they just don't look as nice with the channel steel thing going on. Of course, you salt water guys certainly can't use a steel Eagle, wouldn't last a season.

offthefront 01-28-2010 04:23 PM

I like the looks of the 336 but the dash sucks! easy fix though ......m

88242LS 01-28-2010 08:11 PM

I love my performance trailer, everything welded including jack stand, which means less spots for corrosion to start

What I'm wondering, is why you are talking about trailers & yukons on 336 thread in which neither one of you have? Why don't you two just meet at the nearest Tim Hortons & discuss it over a double double & a maple flavored dognut, A.

If we ignore, hopefully it will rot away.

You should know all about rot with your 89 311.

Do you have a boat? Is it a 336?

BTW Offthefront did one hell of a job getting his "336" back together and was gracious enough to show us how he fixed it. What have you ever contributed to OSO members?
