Question Poker Runs Mag review

My new Poker Runs Mag did a review of a new 382 Formula. The boat came with 525's XR's and I believe a labbed 29 prop. I was kindof in a hurry so I just skimmed the article.

The testing was done in Florida in that warm humid stuff.
Probably did not have a genset and I'm sure they had most of the other goodies Formula has on their boats.

The thing that got me is that they say top end was 80mph@5400

My 2000 382 with HP500 and XZ drives will do 75 on its very best of days, usually its alot closer to 70. Troutly still continues to struggle to get 75 out of his 382 with HP500's and 525's only have 25 more ponies than a HP500.

Is 80mph possible? I just dont think they could get 80 mph in that humid Florida stuff, or anywhere else for that matter

Did anyone else see that review?

I believe 80.

The 525's are good another 2-3 MPH.

The boxes are good for another 3-4 MPH.

Salt water is good for 1-2 MPH vs. fresh, enough to offset the heat and humidity in FL.

Troutly,

I am going to read the review this weekend I'll come back on the specifics.

Apache,

I believe the 525's are good for another 2-3 mph.

I maybe wrong here but I am not convinced the boxes are producing the speed results on Formulas that you would normally see on other boats. I have not done side by side comparisons. Maybe Magicfloat has some answers on this.

Didn't Magicfloat report recently that boxes on the 382 were good for more speed than most people think?

Boxes on the 382 are worth about 2mph while on the 353 they up the speed by about 4 mph. I have a 353 w/500EFI's and boxes and love this set-up. If I went to order a new one I would repeat this set-up.

Rocky - What kind of speed are you getting out of your 353 with 500's and boxes?

The boxes definitely help with top end. My 353 with 500's and no boxes tops out at 82 on gps. I am also running 30P labbed props turning in.
