I recently brought home an '81 Formula F-255LS old-school deep-v cuddy that I purchased from the second owner in northern IL that was reportedly originally purchased by a man who lived near or on Lake Geneva WI. You can see the pics here http://photobucket.com/Formula-255-Liberator. She sports the original twin 260hp Mercruisers with Alphas and stainless props and rides on a very nicely restored '83 heavy duty tandem roller trailer (pulls great). She'll get her first taste of Great Lakes boating on Saturday with a run on Lake Michigan. Her previous time has been spent on smaller inland lakes, so she's probably itching to stretch her cramped legs a bit. I want to thank Sprink for sharing his experiences and opinions of his own 255 Liberator (which came from northern Michigan) which helped me to make the decision to go with this model. If any of you will be out and about between Holland and Grand Haven on Saturday, look for the Blue Streak and flag us down so we can chat a bit. GO FORMULA!!

Thanks masi. After running for about 30 minutes at various speeds, mostly below 2000 RPM, one engine quit and then the other, and couldn't restart due to low battery charge. I noticed a burning smell, particularly when we were running faster than idle, but couldn't see anything odd. The battery switch was on "both". I suspect a loose ground cable on a block that might have been arcing, or maybe a bad alternator. Obviously it would take a huge amount of current loss to draw down both batteries that quickly, especially if the alternators are working well. Besides that she ran great, and what a jump up in wave handling from our F3. There were some big rollers and we got mightly close to airborne a few times, which isn't on my wife's list of faves, so I didn't have a chance to get the feel of it in the rough. Hopefully I can get the electrical gremlin fixed before it gets too cold.
