Only a guess, but probably around 500+ hp or so to get it to 70 mph. That motor would need a fair amount of work to get there - heads, exhaust, carb, cam, etc, so be prepared to make a sizable investment. You probably would need to upgrade motor mounts, possibly the gimbal ring too, which is about $1500 just for the new ring. It is a solid riding boat, but heavy too for a 24', so you will need some solid hp.

A friend of mine looked at that boat last year. Said it looked ok. If the deal works out, probably use it for the season, then decide whether to beef it up as it will be a significant project. Or you could just buy a new 500HP motor and drop that in, but that would start approaching the total price of the boat! If you want to go fast, you need deep pockets...

Hmmm. Sounds too expensive just to go another 10mph.

If the wife likes to go fast then this will be a good excuse to upgrade to a 30' Formula next year. :)

Actually I'm going to have it delivered. I don't have a truck to pull it, I'll be keeping it in a boatel, so I don't really need a truck right now. A buddy of mine has a F350 if need to move on the trailer for some reason.

Wife wants to get a land rover discovery some time later this year. They are rated to tow 5500 lb. I wonder if a disco would be up to the task?

I doubt the Discovery is up for the task. I tried pulling mine with a Tundra ( 7000lb max) and it struggled. So bad that on a long down grade it was pretty bad.

I tow it with a F-250 diesel, does the job perfect.

Are you getting a survey including sea test? I would... it's cold, but they should be able to throw it in.

chuck,we are doing a silent thunder platform right now as we speak. all the wood in the platform was rotted out and we had to grind it down to bare glass. we also epoxy coated all the new plywood and cut the holes with using a 9 in grinder wheel as a template. the grinding part is a real pain make sure to wear good glasses and a mask.make sure you tighten all the bolts in the brackets before you reinstall the wood. have fun.

Well the paperwork has been finalized and delivery is set for this Saturday. I'll post some pics this weekend.
Allstate is going to insure the boat for $350/year which is much better than $1100 that Boat/US quoted me!
