I also have it on good sources that Troutly used to keep "Pictures" hidden inside his silent thunder for "emergencies". :D :D :D :D

For people that want to see the inside of the SR1 silent thunder I will attach a couple of photos. I removed mine because the hull platform gasket was leaking as well I had some cracks at the tow hooks. What I found was the backside was completely rotten. I cut all this out and glassed in a new piece. the job was relatively easy and now I have no leaks or rattles.

Tow hook cracks, if you have them I would look for rott in your platform.

I haven't run the boat yet with the new silencers, I'm shooting for the 1st of May. Jeff

I'd like to know how the silencers compare to Silent Thunder in the "quiet-mode."

I was wondering if it could be stuck injector, dumping too much fuel in one cylinder. But for that to be the problem, the exhaust from both cylinder bank would have to intermix.

We need to get this thread back on topic. The original question involved sooting at the "transom".

Is the soot showing up at the actual transom or at the actual exhaust outlets in the silent thunder platform?

If its at the transom (where the exhaust chamber mates-up), then you have a leaking chamber seal at the transom exhaust tip and at the peripheral seal. This is allowing exhaust gas to seep out without going out through the exhaust chamber. Some sooting is normal and if you have a leaking platform system, it will show up as sooting.

However, if you only see the sooting at the actual exhaust outlets at the back of the exhaust platform on one side and see no sooting at the other side (other engine), then there is obviously an engine problem. Could be anything from fuel delivery to spark to valves, whatever.

Problem is heavy soot at the exhaust tips on the port side, which is so bad it covers one half of the underside of the Silent Thunder, as well as most of the transom below it. Problem began suddenly after I picked up sand and that engine's water temp went to 200. Still runs fine, power-wise.

Seems that the water temp sensor could have been clogged or damaged, telling the motor it hasn't warmed up yet, so it goes into an over-rich mode.

Haven't found anyone with a scan tool, so I'll switch the sensors between motors and see if the problem goes to the other one.

Any other ideas? Are these sensors prone to problems? I've picked up sand and overheated MANY times, but never had this problem before, so I'm not sure it's any more than a coincidence.
