Mike, hate to hear this. I could tell your excitement and anticipation of arrival.
Seems typical, I always plan on new pumps, alternator and bilge pumps. Sometimes, manifolds and risers are good for a season. They are a pain in the a'$$' to replace. The silver lining, you wont have to worry about it later and can have fun enjoying the new ride. |
Offthefront,
Not that it will make your situation any better but, I had deperessing issues when I bought my 311 3 years ago. Test drove the boat with the previous owner for about 4 hours before I bought it. everything was checking out just fine. No major issues. Sold! Took it home. The second weekend I had it: Port circulating pump - toast! Port raw water impeller - toast! Starboard K-plane motor - toast! Port shift dog in drive - junk! Fuel gauge sending unit - broken! All in one weekend! Wife says: Nice job, did you even drive this thing first or just drink beer with the previous owner? Me: Of course I drove it, and checked it out, and tested it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and drank several beers with the previous owner:p :p |

Finally got heads back ....they are ok ....we put heads back on ..left pushrods out so we could bottom each piston and do leakdown ..leakdown is fine ...5-8% ...now what ?????? EM's check ok .....

What caused the sea pump to fry? A bag or some obstruction, Maybe someone ran the motor without the water turned on by mistake. Or an old or damaged impeller which just didn't pump enough. Check for rubber chunks upstream of the pump.

When I got the boat .. the clamps on the suction side of the pump were loose and slid back ....the had not put them back on after checking Pump from winter storage ...

Buying a boat does not make you an official boater.
Having your first major repair, does...... :D |
