Looking forward to meeting Robert and his wife. Someone should pick up my 2001 382 from him. He's got it for sale now.

Congrats! I love that boat. Where will you be boating?

CoBarry,
Southern part of Lake Michigan from St. Joseph to Chicago, Put In Bay area, and hopefully, if I can pull it off, Florida coast somewhere. I see you live in the LOTO area. I've been down there a couple of times with my 19' Mastercraft. My wife has a lot of family in MO. Should be a stop this year. easy drive from Indiana. I'm also looking at going to 1000 Island this summer. I've been there with the Mastercraft before and it was awesome. There's a guy on this forum that lives out there and I'll probably try to hook up with him. Hopefully I'll put a few hours on the boat this year!

Where is 1000 Island? Any good for skiing? We also have a 21' Malibu that we're keeping for skiing/boarding.

If you do bring the boat to LOTO drop me a line and maybe we can hook up. Our place is near the 7 MM across the lake from the Horny Toad.

"where is the 1000 Islands"

:D

That would be where the most beautiful freshwater boating on the planet is....
...the St. Lawrence River, about the same 20 minutes away from my house as Lake Ontario.

my new avatar is last year leaving Henderson Harbor, looking NNE out on Lake Ontario, for the 18 mile run back to the mouth of the St. Lawrence River at Cape Vincent.

I snapped that pic 'cause the Lake was layed down good that evening...waterskiing water...rare.

prevailing wind is SW to NE. If there's any wind at all, after it blows across a couple hundred miles of open lake, it piles up the junk pretty good in the NE end...trying to stuff that water into the mouth of the St. Lawrence.
I've been out there many times when you had to run "in the ditch" quite a ways to get on plane...and get enough speed and setup to stay that way, at times even that was difficult.

I'll run out there when others turn tail, as long as it's past the end of July and the water temp is survivable.

Haven't run into that with the Formula yet.

Of course it doesn't have the high "X" and/or blowers of past craft. :D

Coulda' stayed out there runnin' forever on that evening.

Rippem,
Need to get a few of us out there. I'm willing to make a trip if you feel like putting something together. If we could get the LOTO boys and the Put In Bay boys out there, we should return the favor and make a trip out to their lakes too! Running out of days fast! :evilb:

We ran Kevin's new 382 today, got some nice Alabama weather.Ran better than expected, everything is dialed in just right with the 26" P-5's,jumped on plane easily. This is one strong 382. We left it on my lift to check out a few things before the rain hits again. Everything should be perfect before it is picked up,checking out trailer brakes and other stuff today, should be ready to pick up and enjoy shortly. Robert

Robert,
Thanks for the updates! Did you get my reply about the showers? Go ahead and put them on if you have them. Gotta ask....How fast? (Not that I care ; ) )

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

Simrek Halo showers installed. 79.5 GPS,82 Speedo. This is one dialed in 382. But we think Alabama water is faster :drink:

That works for me! :evilb:

(All except the 20 degree weather here)

Holy Toledo, Batman. Kevin ... you'll be breathing right up my tailpipes!

Robert,

Got any more of the 26 5-blades available? I think I'm gonna need 'em labbed if I want to keep my "Enjoy the View" signature. Used to have that on the transom of my 311 ... the Cig and Fountain guys didn't like it too well when I passed them! :D

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

I took out a new 35 yesterday with steve from formula at the miami boat show, the boat had a pair of 525's. with no tweaking, we did 79.7 mph on the GPS. Pretty sweet!
they had a 38 there with the 600 sci motors, but you had to kill some one to get a ride.

dukenrock 02-19-2005 06:21 PM

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

That had to be a pretty sweet time! Do you know what props they were running? Did you talk to anyone about what they thought the 600's would do overall?

dukenrock 02-19-2005 07:32 PM

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

I would assume they weren't driving it hard, seeing it was a brand new boat.

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

not to mention on salt water.

hard break-in is why those boats carry big discounts wherever they end up.

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

You best get down there and show zoomer how to drive that thing! Those 382's be running circles around him.

Wonder if this was the one he drove...

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

yup, thats the one we took out. it had 525's with ITS and XR drives. We never opened it up long enough to really stretch it's legs. the paint job was beautiful!!!!! the only thing i did not like was the sun pad vinyl colors. i really liked the all white vinyl and the red carbon fiber dash. inside that boat they had a 19 inch lcd monitor and air conditioning, which was real nice. It has merc bravo1's, not sure on what pitch. they had not messed with props at all yet. it probably could see 83-85 mph with some work. Awesome boat though

zoomer 02-20-2005 11:47 AM

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

ohh, i had to wait an hour and a half for my ride because one of the starter solenoids went bad on the port engine. they got it fixed up though

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

When did they start putting air int he 353's? I always thought you needed to go to the 382 for that option. Did you notice on the 382 if the bimini storage was same as the 353?

zoomer 02-20-2005 11:54 AM

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

this year they started the AC in the 353. this was one of the first ones with it, but it was nice. they thing I have against the boat is that there is soooooooo little storage space and the AC just eats up what little is in there to begin with. the 382 that was in the water had a generator and AC.

zoomer 02-20-2005 11:54 AM

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

didnt notice about the bimini storage.

dukenrock 02-20-2005 12:00 PM

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

That's gonna be a nice selling faeture for the 353. I was OK with the 353's when I first started looking at the Formula's except that I wanted the air. We overnight in our 382, and one time the air went out, couldn't sleep without it! I have the gen set too and wouldn't go without it either. Hopefully they'll have that as an option to. I assume they put the air where the 382 was. Looked like a nice show. They had my favorite Cig there.

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

I get the feeling that the 7" of set-back of the ITS just isn't enough to make the difference in speed. The 12" of the Stellings' seems to wake 'em up quite a bit. There must be a "sweet spot" in amount of set-back, in combo with "X" dimension. I would always choose the stellings, irrigardless of the cleaner compact packaging of the ITS.

How difficult would it have been to graft on bimini storage shelves to the underside of the 382 deck? Unless the hatch opening isn't wide enough for straight in stowage?

Poker Run 353 please!
The loaded one won't have enough storage left to stow a change of clothes.

That 525/ITS boat has to run 83 min. you would think.

I have a hard enough time deciding the best spot to store the anchor! Ar you guys using an anchor that folds away and stores in a bag?
