I think that silver grahpic on the 271? looks nice for standard, especially with a black trailer.

What is that bottom one in post 5?

That Lazer looks better here than in the brochures too.

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

bottom one is 353, "Sport" I believe, in Gold #2 "Key Biscayne".

and yes flash too looks better in every photo I've seen other than the brochure. I guess you can't judge them, only in person.

dukenrock 02-02-2005 02:33 PM

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

Looks like a 353

I think if they took up some of the yellow forward with one more color, it'd be just a little more likable.

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

Hey you guys with the 382's can you tell me anything about them? The one I'm looking at is a 1998 with hp500's. The boat has 280 hrs. on it. Is the hull on a 98 the same as the 2004-2005. The boat has everything but a gen. what would be a good price? What kind of handling characteristics,(porposing) and speed will this boat do?
Thanks for any help.
Dale

Those are some sweet looking formulas

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

Dale,
I have the 2001 (listed in the classifieds) The 98's have the latest hull design. You have aspirated motors as opposed to injection like is on the newer ones. (99 and up I believe) That brings the price of the 98's down a little. I would say you should pick it up low 100's (100-105) if perfect condition. I have the generator on mine and wouldn't go without one. Personal preference. Look for a good graphic design for resale too. You'll love the handling of the 38's too. I run up to 75-77 mph and it's a dream at 45 cruising.

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

Trout,
What is the difference in the new drives and what prop changes did they make? I didn't see anything specified in the '05 literature on the newer drives.

bigboat28 02-03-2005 01:48 PM

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

Dukenrock you mean that the hull of a 98 is the same as the hull they have now, the steps and everything are all the same? The one I am looking at has extension boxes, how much does that help handling? Thanks
Dale

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

yes, no changes. The 382 FasTech is the same hull today as when introduced as a '97 model. '98 was the switch to white dash ect. from the black, as it appears today. The deck is the deck from the 382 SR1 of the mid 90's. X dimensions may have varied some, not sure about that. Standard X was raised an inch or more on the 353 after 2 or 3 years of production, 2000/2001?

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

My '05 382 was built before the restlyed Bravos came out. Mostly just a cosmetic change but Merc does claim smoother shifting due to a redesigned shift dog. I notice a little difference in a single lever control, but with Livorsis it is no big deal. As for props, the 5-blade Hydros work extremely well, the 5 blade Maximas do also. I will try for more photos tonite, last nite was a zoo,it was so busy we even forgot to call my neighbor to let our 5 Labs(dogs, not props) out of the house. They were inside from noon to midnite but fortunately,no problems(we left the TV on)

I am a Lab lover...what do you have?
5  better be a big house!

Glad the show is going strong...

Do I have the 382 facts straight?

Can you guys tell me about the cabin in the 382 1998, how much head room is there, can you stand up? Also how big is the head?

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

Trout,
Those ar nice pictures! I think the brochures don't do them justice. I'm going to look at an '04 382 Robert has, but think I'll stick with the '05 posted earlier. I don't know if I want to own a first gen outdrive! Would make me a little nervous. Great looking boat. Thanks for the post.

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

I agree. Nice pics, the flash looks nice...I like the colors amidships back.

I wouldn't worry too much about the drives, it's not a radical departure by any means.

Re: 05 382-Birmingham Boat Show

The Bham Show was the most successful show we have ever had in terms of sales, and we have been in all 34 years of them. I have no idea why,we didn't do anything different. We displayed 12 Formulas. Kevin's new 382 was the hit of the show,it got a great near full page write up in the Bhams News with 3 color photos and a great story. You can access it at www.al.com and do a search in sports for" Boats for Big Bucks." The photos don't come up but the text does. Sorry I can't do a direct link,we don't have high tech methods in Alabama :drink:

RE: HEAD

You can not stand up no matter what (unless you're JBK). It's just a head.....no sink or anything. You basicaly open the head, hop in and sit, do the business, flush twice then get out and close the door! Don't forget to hit the fan so the next person doesn't die. :D :D :D :D :drink: :drink: :drink:

Thanks to the photos Troutly posted we sold the Flash 353 today to a very nice couple in Memphis. They were unsure about Flash until the pictures were posted here, and they liked it. I think they also joined OSO. What a great site. Robert

It's official! New proud owner of Robert Nelem's 382! Weather permitting will go down and pick up the boat by the end of the month. Came up with a name too. Since I'm in the telephone system and cabling business, I thought maybe this would work:

Twisted Pair

Looking forward to meeting Robert and his wife. Someone should pick up my 2001 382 from him. He's got it for sale now.

My current one made it all the way to Arizona! Oh well. Looking forward to seeing it in person. Robert's about 10 hours from me. Not too bad.
