353 Search---Need Info
 

Guys,
I will be looking at a 1999 353 in Sarasota next Tuesday. The boat has HP500's (carbs), Bravo I's on Stelling boxes. The boat looks clean and has low hrs. They are asking $109,900 w/o a trailer. What do you guys think? I feel the price is a little high but hope the will negotiate. Any thought as to what kind of speed this set-up might yield? I know it is a heavy boat and I expect a great ride, but I am hoping for 80+ MPH.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

I don't think that asking price is out of line at at if it's nice. Those boxes were a 12K option alone, plus 500's. I mean I've seen 502 boats@ 85-90K, and I don't think even they're changing hands for much less than that.

anything 100K or less sounds like a good buy for a clean low hour boat, even without a trailer. You can put an alum under it for 3500 bucks.

80 MPH everyday, if the motors are up to snuff.

What's on it for paint?

A local bought a 1999 502/ 353 last year for 92K. He thought it was a good deal...?? Says he can't quite get it to 70. I agree with Rippem, anything under 100K sounds like a good deal.

Thanks Guys. All great info. Rippem, I did not know that the boxes were that much. The boat has Premium Illusion Graphics. If the engines are as advertised and it is as clean as they say, who knows??? I might just join the Formula brotherhood. Again thanks for you in-put.

The HP500s usually add around 20k to a used boat over 502 mags.

There's a sweet 353 from LOTO that will be going up for sale. I think it's a 99 as well. He's a Forum member here. I saw a picture of thr boat ...NICE. I'll try to remember his name and see if I still have the pic.

The 353 posted above is located in Parkview Bay on dock #4 at LOTO. It is a clean boat. He rents his slip from 6 Star Managment. You can call Kim at (314) 650-1087 and she might be able to get you in touch with the owner. My buddy also has a 353 for sale at LOTO. It is a 2001 with HO's and under 100 hours. It is listed out on boattrader.

I have a mint, loaded, HO powered '02 353 on an Eagle, less than 100 hrs.

It's for sale if I could find a mint loaded FW 382 to buy. :D

There is a 2001 353 with 500efi's for sale at the Formula dealer in Deerfield Beach, FL. Asking 120k with 200'ish hours.

Well the wife and I went to look at this "REALLY CLEAN" 353 yesterday. What a waste of time!!! The dealer had told me it was really clean and well cared for. The hull had been repaired in several places, the motors were rough, the cockpit and engines showed a lot of corrosion on all metal surfaces. I guess I am just to critical. I know that I am anal about my boat, and I assume that everyone takes the same care of theirs. The hunt continues. Thanks for all the in-put, I will be trying to make contact tomorrow.

Many Floridians' idea of a clean boat is skewed because they take such a beating down there from the heat, UV, and salt. :eek:

Keep looking .....it will come ....the more you look and you need to LOOK the more you will know when you got the right one .... Bought my 311 sight unseen with a "9 outa 10" from Surveyor .....Whoooo Boy ....never do that again. ... :rolleyes:

When I first started looking at 382's last year, I found a guy in Fort Wayne who has one racked in Florida. Low hours. 1998 382 500 Carbs, low hours. He hardly gets down there. (Fort Myers) I think it could be hadd under 100K, maybe even in the low 90's. (No trailer) He's not advertising it. If your interested I can get you the information to contact him.

If you run across it shoot it my way ..... a buddy of mine is ready to buy now ....he has been looking at 312's 336's ...but we went to Cumberland in Jan to look at a 353 .... we both fell in love with it ....it got sold before we got back to Jax .... a 382 would be sweet ....

I just placed a call to a good friend of mine who is good friends with the 382 owner. He sent me pics of it and it looked realy clean. I don't think you'll find what you saw on the 353 in FL. this guy has the cash to keep it kept up to snuff. I'll pm you when I get the number. I'll see if he also can get me some pics I can email you.

You with a 382? There's enough angst around the boathouse when you pull in with the 353 what with all the undercurrents and eddies on that side of the dock. Maybe Mark will create a double slip for you. (awful lot of carpeting expense though) :evilb:

There's a brand new leftover '99 353 with carb 500's and platinum Illusion paint over at Beverly Port in Mass. Who knows what you could do on that?

Though if I were you, I'd skip the BS and go dirctly to Nelem's in any attempt to find what you're looking for.
Robert's priced me several deals, and I've found him to be both very realistic in terms of price and absolutely straightforward otherwise. :)

My boat came out of MN. Troutly turned me on to it, and I got one hell of a deal on a brand new boat. :D

... and Robert gave me a great price. I hadn't sold my last boat outright yet (shortly thereafter), so it was a little rich for me on a trade deal, maybe just a little rich for me anyway, but I wanted that boat bad.

I'm into the one I have now for 60K less. Fit my present situation a little better in the end.

Getting divorced, giving up a house, and that second substantial income has forced me to compromise in some respects.

It ain't all bad though! :p
