Trim switch buttons
I am working to secure a source for replacement buttons on the trim tab switches. Mine are badly yellowed from sun exposure in Arizona where my 382 was previously owned. New switch assemblies retail over $40.00 each from Formula. Buttons are available directly from Honeywell for about $6.50 each in white, black, red, blue, green, and yellow.
I have noticed discoloration of several others in pics here and thought I would check if anyone else is interested in ordering replacements. There was a change in the switches sometime after '99 and the replacement buttons are different on the new style. I will try to find when the change was made. RD |
Re: Trim switch buttons
I may be interested because I have the same problem. The 3 sets (6 individual) switches for tab, trim, etc on my new ride (98 312) are yellowed as well as the steering wheel. If you can get these for $6.50 each in white I'm all in. At $40.00 each I'll keep my eyes out across the water. Let me know what you find out.....Thanks for thinking of the fellow Formula owners!

I'll do that......white is what I need. I was going to replace them and look for a place to get them, but if you have that already figured out, let me know! I'm a 2001. Email me! [email protected] |
Re: Trim switch buttons
Check out Honeywell website "switches and controls" section. TP series if I remember correctly. I spoke with them today to get prices. I need to go back in and ID nearest retailer in my area. My switches are discontiuned with a new replacement. But it appears the buttons are still available and just need to pop old ones off, snap new ones on.

Re: Trim switch buttons
Are you saying the "caps" snap on/off from the switch body?

Re: Trim switch buttons
Hmmmmmmmmmm........getting a lot of dead link for Honeywell switches...

Re: Trim switch buttons
I finally found the page I believe you were refering to. Now I just need to figure out which ones are the replacement switches.

Yes. If your switch is model 2TP38-7, the "cap" or button is just pressed on and held in place by two dimples on each side of the rocker. You could probably just put a spring hook under the button and pop it off without even having to pull the panel up. The new design looks like its a little more complicated (progress, right?). I do not yet know when the change was made, but I'm looking into it. |
Re: Trim switch buttons
Dominant boat color and bezels are red. I'm thinking of going with the red buttons so they don't turn yellow again. What do you guys think?

Well....if we can get the caps, they can't be that much! I'm thinking a set of white, a set of blue and a set of red! Here's pics of mine today.

Re: Trim switch buttons
I'm going to go pull part numbers this weekend.......
Any suggestions for a new wheel too? |
Re: Trim switch buttons
Nort,
You have the new switches. They are not made by Honeywell. They were supplied by Bennett. It looks to me that the button (which is also the toggle on the new style) can be replaced if you can find the source. I would try contacting Bennett. I will try to see what I can find for you, but the buttons I'm looking at will not work for you. I have 6 new switch assemblies if you want them, but they are $36 each. I will be returning them unless you want them. |
Re: Trim switch buttons
t500hps,
I can order the white switches for you and send them on if you want to PM your address or call (H) 419-882-1680 or (C) 419-450-0896. I don't know how close the red will match, but I'll take a shot for $36 (and order a extra set in white). Chris |

All of my speaker grills have also turned yellow. Ugly.. I have an order in for buttons from Honeywell. I have one set coming in white for t500hps, one set in red for me, and an extra set in white in case the red doesn't go with my bezel color. If these are correct, I can send the second set of white on to you, or give you the number to purchase direct from Honeywell. They are $6.50 each plus tax and shipping. Stay tuned ... I should recieve them later this week and will advise. :D I replaced my speaker grills from Formula. At some point I will be upgrading the sound system and speaker grills with something other than the Kenwood/white plastic. |

Re: Trim switch buttons
The trim buttons have arrived from Honeywell. They are identical in appearance to the originals except that the originals had a slight "non-skid" texture to the surface contact area. These are smooth and shiny ... I like them better. The red also looks good on my dash. I can send sets on to t500hps and ApachePete if you PM your address.
I also have a number for Bennett Marine at home ... haven't had a chance to call about replacing buttons on the new style switches yet, but I will still try to get info for the newer style switches. RD |

Re: Trim switch buttons
RedDog said they switched switches (hehe) sometime in 1999. Phantom also has a 2001 and is looking for switches. I've got a pic of his and will ask someone local who may be able to track them down.

The change in the switches appears to have been around or prior to 2001. |

Honeywell probably has a replacement for the older style switches, model 2TP38-7. Call their Sensing and Control division at 800-537-6945 and ask for Donna ... she is GREAT! A retailer for the Honeywell line of switches and buttons is Peerless Electronics at 800-285-2121. They are a major supplier for industrial and aviation controls and electronics. Located in New York but also locations in Florida. Those with the newer switches may want to check with Livorsi. They have trim switches in their catalogue that appear the same as those now used by Formula. They may be able to help with replacement buttons on the new style switches, or at least refer you to their manufacturer. |
