Hello everyone, my name is Dave. Haven't posted much, but have learned a heck of a lot. Done business with Thirdbird. Question for Dealers here or anyone with input appreciated. Has anyone ever traded down. I own 2001 Formula PC31. I have been trying to sell or trade for 311, 336 ,353, but wanted to walk away with some $$$ also. This may be the wrong forum for this, but just wondering if anyone thinks this is possible to do?

Anything is possible, but realize you will not be trading retail for retail. You are probably aware your best bet is someone who is looking for more creature comforts and less speed. Some dealers (not alot) will make this deal happen, but at a cost. Your boat must be worth around 110K and the 311 and 336 are going for 35k-60k.

I'd try Lakeport Landing in Laconia, NH. I have heard of them doing deals like that before. However, they are usually a bit pricy for used stock, and don't typically like salt boats.
So it can be done, however expect to take a bit of a flogging. Same as used cars, you always do better selling outright than trading in, but if you need to get a deal done then it may be worth it.

T500hps and Jaybird, thankyou both for your replies. Lakeport doesn't like to do saltwater trades. I have spoken with Jerry ***an (I believe) in the past. My last 2 boats were '87 272 and '95 336. Thought PC was the way to go, but I miss the gofast. I know there are a few dealers who hang out on the site and was hoping for a little input, not a committment, just ideas or thoughts. The dealer I purchased new from is no longer in good standing with Formula from my understanding.

As dealers, we can occasionally offer a customer the opportunity to trade down and walk out with some cash. Every deal structure is unique, though.
You have to be reasonable as to the value of your trade, because we (the dealer) are going to have to move it quickly. Over-priced inventory sits! The best scenario is if we have a buyer waiting in the wings for your trade. Then we can eliminate any risk from the transaction and offer you the highest trade value and a fair price on the new boat.
The good thing for you is that 31' PC's are extremely popular on the pre-owned market, so the trade-in risk is minimal. We are closing on a 2001 and also a 2002 this week alone!
Good luck and PM me if I can be of any help.

Thankyou to all who replied. Tom, I sent you a PM. Having had Formulas in the past, I am finding it much harder to sell a new one with warranty than my older boats. I do like this site. A lot of cool people with common interest .
