Re: 70's this week!
I brought the digital camara which I had charged up the night before. My brother used it for a short time after it was charged and didn't turn it off. When I went to use it the battery was dead! Sorry about the pics, but I will make sure no one touches my stuff any more!
As far as the boat goes, it was a great day weather wise. We met Chris (Red Dog) and followed him to the marina. I found a hydrolic leak in the power steering coupler at the stern and checked the fittings. They were tight, but still had a slow drip. Found that the chrome coupler that attaches to the stern where the hose connects had a crack in it. Will have to replace the piece, not sure how tight it will be to get at from inside theboat. Performance wise, I wasn't impressed with the planing time. It seems my '01 with the 500's planed faster. Might be my imagination, but it didn't seem to hit the higher RPM's as quick. We noticed that one of the FlowScan units wasn't working, and I attributed it to a slight kink in the hose between the sensor and the fuel pump.Thought maybe it wasn't getting enough fuel. We tied up and relocated the sensor with a longer hose to correct. After we did that the flowscan worked for a short while, then quit again. I know I'm getting fuel because it ran awesome after planing off. I will recheck electrical connections this weekend. Starboard motor ran about 15-20 degrees cooler than the port side. Didn't notice a big difference with the drive extensions. Maybe if I focused more on that than the Floscan problem I would have. I'm not sure if I should use a different approach when I take off (Tabs down, trim up, etc) to compensate for the extensions. Any feedback would be nice. The sound of twin 525's with Captains CAll and without the Silent Thunder is impressive :D Boat looked nice, except I haven't had a chance to give it a good thorough cleaning and waxing yet. Otherwise all went well! Thanks you Chris for being my tour guide! We had a great time. KC

Imagine .....525's and complaining about plane time...
We went out on a 33 Scarab 2 weeks ago with 572's Prochargers ....extension's ..yea it hauled ass ...but also wasn't too impressed with plane time ....not sure if the extension's contribute to that or not ... just some input ... makes me feel better about my motors running 5-10* different ... props the same on both boats. ?.. even if they are ..every boat is different ... |
Re: 70's this week!
the FloScan bit is in the wiring...
did I tell you the story of how amazed I was at the economy I was getting on my first tank of fuel with FloScan? Yea...ran out on the Canadian side of Wellesly Island (far from home). Had a fishing dude in a rental from a nearby state park tow me in to the gas dock. 12' foot alum with like a 15HP. He was absolutely loaded, just heading in himself, which was a good thing 'cause he kept tossin' me beers while I sat on the nose watching the towline. :D If I remember I had one of the microswitches in the wrong position reading one sensor only. It was a few miles, caught a helluva a buzz quick, and made a new boating friend...I covered his costs for the day, he was happy. :drink: |
Re: 70's this week!
I don't want to say it was all the boat's fault. As I mentioned, it may be operator error. This was my first time out in this one and I just need to familiarize myself more with it. It's possible that the boat is planing as fast as my old one, and I just don't hear the RPM's like I did on the other. As far as the temp diff goes, my '01 was the same way. One always ran noticeably cooler than the other.

Re: 70's this week!
Mine worked for a short time, then quit, worked, quit, worked, quit for good! I don't recall any settings on the back for a twin meter install. So my 91/2 gallons we burned was actually 19 gallons!

Re: 70's this week!
that's true cause you have the twinscan. I had the cruisemaster model and toggled side to side for GPH. There was a switch on the cruisemaster to tell the totalizer to read two senders.
sounds like a poor 12V, ground, or signal wire connection from the one sender on either end of the wire you provided. You did say it was just one side acting up correct? I guess it could always be a bad sensor...not likely, but possible. Theres a filter in front of the sensor...right? at least you didn't get towed in by a drunk fisherman. :D |
Re: 70's this week!
I guess the only "one" real death blow to twins .....NO FUEL ....
KC ... Not slammin you at all for finding some Faults ..... I know your stoked and just cant wait til my next time .... my 311 was my first OS boat and I was kinda oblivious of what to look for .....next time.... :D I'll be all over it ...... |
Re: 70's this week!
I will check all of my connections. I was petty careful when I made them but that is a possibility. Secondly, my filters are not installed yet  I bought them but the weather beat me to it. It's a chance I picked up some debri in the tank on that one. I am almost sure there is no prefilter prior to the fuel pump. Drunken fisherman?

I was pretty stoked. I could have been out yesterday on one motor and thought it was a great day! At least I was on the water. Heck, the boat looks even better sitting still! :drink:
