1998 353 What's it worth?
#1
I am looking at a 1998 353 with 500 hp's (carb) and it comes with an aluminum trailer. It has 420 hrs on the motors. How long can you run these 500's before they need to be freshened up? It has been run in fresh water only. Anything else to look for on the 353's ? Thanks for any advice.

i think you need to take care of the top end issues within 200 hours .. I would ask ..... but if you redid the top now ....in 200 hours(600) you woulld prob need complete rehab anyway .....might pay to do it now ...I am sure someone with alot more knowledge will chime in ...

I seem to recall that these sell for around 90 clean, lower depending on blemishes. the motors are in need of a top end minimum, that should reduce the price to 80ish.

The bottom price for this boat right now is 90k. It is in excellent shape and comes with an aluminum trailer. Is this price too high or about right? What am I looking at for cost to freshen up the top end of these two motors?

If everything else is good and the motor re-fresh is the ONLY thing it needs then it's probably worth 90K. I would still try to work out something with the seller regarding refreshing, but would make it a deal killer. I know someone that just redid a pair of 500's into 580-600's for about $6000 in parts. They did their own labor.
