Stupid Newbie Question.....

I know this might sound stupid but I have to ask...........where does the water drain to out of the cabin cooler? I assume it goes down to the engine hatch but I'm probably wrong.......so I must ask the pro's.............thanks in advance!

Re: Stupid Newbie Question.....

I don't have a cooler in the cabin but my guess would be it drains thru a thru hull fitting. Easy way to find out would be to put some water in it and take a look. Just my .02

On my Fountain, it comes out the thru hull fitting just outside from where the cooler is.

Re: Stupid Newbie Question.....

It just drains into the bilge. Really.

Re: Stupid Newbie Question.....

It should drain thru a thru hull fitting, not into the bilge!!!!

Bilge.if not the sink would back up into it.

That's where it's at on my old 1993 35 and the new one.

My drains on the side of the hull where the cooler is. Not through the bilge.

My dads last 35 was the same way.

Re: Stupid Newbie Question.....

Sounds like all of the above. My '99 32' drained into the hull right at the gas tank. :( Problem was, there is no drain holes for that compartment. I ran a hose from the cooler, between the floor and stringers, then out 1 of the drain holes in the engine compartment forward bulkhead. I don't like ANY water to get in the bottom of the hull. Not convinced all water will drain out. Always seems to be 1 drain hole or so that doesn't get drilled in the very bottom of the compartment holding water back.

The Cabin Ice Box has a short hose attached that runs into the Port side storage area which is carpeted. There is no drain in there that I am aware of. I have had the entire side panel off installing speakers. They could have added a few more feet of hose so it would have drained into the bilge. The thru hull fitting is only for the sink. Obviously from the different answers it's not a stupid question. :drink:

I have 2 thru hulls right in that area. Hard to tell from the picture, both are within 1 ft of each other. The larger for the sink, then a smaller one for a bilge pump that was in the cabin step. I removed that pump and wiring and plugged the thru hull. Wanted to use that fitting for the cooler drain, but the bottom of the cooler is lower than that fitting.

Re: Stupid Newbie Question.....

Just had the cooler out of my '04 29 and it had a 5' drain hose direct to the bilge. The two forward thru hull fittings are for the cabin sink (large one) and the forward bilge pump located in the cabin step storage area. Good luck.
