If you disconnect the battery negative cable and see sparks when you reconnect it; you have a drain. Computers for EFI motors can create a drain as well as some stereo and electronic equipment. These should not drain the batteries in days but can over SEVERAL weeks. Start disconnecting or isolating items to check for the drain. Disconnect the engine harness from the engine connector, make sure the cabin electronics are not draining, check the bilge circuit and make sure the alternator is charging properly.

been there done that no warranty 2 motor 2 drive in 1 fell swoop i tried to buy a good deal in michigan turned into a nightmare,,, but it all works out just gotta love this chit enough i guess and drink heavily when its broke/ cause u cant when its runnin,, good luck.. |

once your mechanic gets your motor started, have him put a voltmeter across your batteries -- will be reading 13 to 14 volts if alternator is working - with engine off, voltage will drop to at or just over 12 volts
do both motors have alternators and separate battery circuits ??? |

just a suggestion --- with two alternators, I would measure voltage on each motor charge circuit separately to compare to each other.
Measure one motor at a time with motor running then with motor not running -- obviously both should act the same -- 13 to 14 volts with motors running -- around 12 when not |

Sorry for your hell.
My battery was just drained by my bilge pump running for no reason. I replaced it.(what fun) and the new one runs hot all the time also. Anybody know why? And speaking of seats my passenger seat wont go up th last inch? Any ideas? Hope you figure it out. JC |

Fountain27496ho - Bilge pump is always hot so if your battery switch is off the pump can still come on if water gets in the boat/bilge. Primarily an issue for boats that STAY in the water rather than on a hoist or on a trailer, but can also be important if you store your boat outside and your cover comes off in a storm. Sorry, not trying to hijack the thread.

Dago to find your short use one battery and remove the neg cable, put a test light between the batt terminal and cable if you have a short the light will light. A radio memory will not be enough to light the light so if it is lit you have a problem. Do this and start popping fuses and tripping breakers till the light goes out then you've found the circuit,and go from there.

Ok Its a hi-jack, Fstftn I know its hot but my bilge pump is running non stop no water no stuck float. Replaced it and still running. I pulled the fuse. Any Ideas?
Also does the neg. battery trick work on cars. My vette developed a draw. The light is on but never went out after trying every fuse? any Ideas? Dago get a week of trouble free yet ? I hope. Thanks for any suggestions. JC |

Test light trick works on any 12 v system. does your bilge pump have a internal or external float switch?

Both external, I've eliminated the pump since It still does it after replacing it. The light never went out on the car?

Damn. Just read this thread, that sucks pretty bad.
I have a similar story. Bought my '91, 27' Fever in April. Blew the motor (single 502) in June. This is a week after i replaced the oil cooler and all the oil lines, because the previous owner was nice enough to run the oil lines too close to the exhaust manifold. Sucked up some seaweed and it got a wee bit hot. But it didn't overheat the normal way. The oil got too hot and baked the paint off the inside of the oil pan (where paint shouldn't be...) sucking it up into the oil pickup and costing me two bearings. Luckily the insurance covered it and i was only out of pocket about $2000 and out of boat about 2 months ( :mad: ). Anyway, mines back running again. Good luck with yours. How fast does it run, when it runs? |

BOAT= Brake out another thousand , and the other tail the two best days of owning a boat is the day you buy it and the day you sell it. Don't feel bad if you are into boating as much as the rest of us we have had the same luck. fix it and move on.
