Re: 29 w/ 377 scorpions, good combo or bad???
the 377 scorpions made 360 or 370 hp depending on what you read.....the stock 6.2 makes 320hp.....theres your speed difference
the 377 is a good engine but very expensive to produce (it had that oh so expensive blue paint on it  ) so apparently thats why they dropped it. |

I'm curious how much that would affect the boat at higher elevations. I'm no expert, but it's possible that if you're going to stay inland, a twin setup might be in order. It is tight in the engine comparments though. It's all in what type of boating you want to do.
UNSANE, I spend most of my time on Coeur d' Alene Lake in Idaho. I had a 27 fountain and it was ok. It was slow to plane and it was very difficult to dock or reverse. It was fun to fly though. I currently have a 20' Cigarette... OH no did I say that in this Fountain forum? The Cigarette guys give the Fountain guys a bit of crap, but I like them both. It is a lot of fun. Being 20' the fly time is often. If I go back to a Fountain it will be a 29 and by all the info that has been give here, probably a single big block version. Thanks to all who have posted here. I appreciated it and soon you may see me more often in the Fountain sectioin. |

Wouldn't a twin handle the ruff stuff better? With that extra weight? I havent ridden in a twin but was told they are better offshore?

Rslick, good luck with whatever you buy. I will be in that part of the world soon since I'm buying my 29 at Powerboats NW. |

Re: 29 w/ 377 scorpions, good combo or bad???
I have a 2002 29' fountain with twin 350 mags. Fountain guarantees 69 and thats what I hit. A big block single is definitely faster but I like the twins for docking and manuevering. I would definitely like a set of scorpions! The reason they stopped making scorpions is because the extra money and weight the scorpion had was to close to the big blocks.

Re: 29 w/ 377 scorpions, good combo or bad???
I'm fortunate that I am an above average docker with my 22' but I have to admit that 29' would be a new challenge. FeverMike, how quick is the steering on a 29, I mean the ratio? How many turns to lock? Just curious, going to find out in a couple of weeks. Got an easy approve today on the financing :D :D :D

rslick,
We live in the same area, we've probably partied at Arrow Point together. Did you sell your cig yet and are you looking for new or used 29? |
