29 w/ 377 scorpions, good combo or bad???

I am looking at a 29 with twin 377 scorpions. I have been hearing that the 29 with twin big blocks does not handle as well when it comes to flying the boat. Any thoughts as to how the 29 handles with twin small block scorpions?? I boat on lakes rather than the ocean.
Any info will be greatly appreciated. It would be a sad day to purchase the wrong combination.

I don't know about the 29 with twin small blocks, but I have a 29 with twin big blocks and after installing aluminum cylinder heads, the boat does ride better. It sems to be alot better balanced without the extra weight at the stern.

the 29 with 525 is the best set up.. Unless the scorpion deal is so much better.. hold out fro a 525 set up...

I am buying a single 525. I debated the twins and the Scorpions would be the only engines I would go with but according to my math a twin setup is about 700 pounds heavier than a 525. I've talked to other 29 owners and they state that the single is better for "flying" the boat but twins will holeshot better and the docking advantages are obvious. It's all in what you want to do. I personally want to fly :D and I don't care about time to plane.

rslick, I see you're in Spokane, I grew up in the Tri-Cities. Where are you mostly going to use the boat? Although I'll find this out in a couple of weeks, I'm told that a 29 single can be slow to plane and the twins will get the boat up a lot quicker. I'm curious how much that would affect the boat at higher elevations. I'm no expert, but it's possible that if you're going to stay inland, a twin setup might be in order. It is tight in the engine comparments though. It's all in what type of boating you want to do.

Working on things in the bilge with a single is much easier. With twin anything in the 29 it's way tight!

Mike .....if I remember correctly your 29 with an HP500 carb would do 75 gps in the salt and yours was the fastest one on here by a couple of mph.....what will a 29 do with a 525??......80??
so your saying a twin 377 29 will only do 70 or 68....I dont know about that

the twin smallblock 29 has plenty of room in the engine compartment.....I changed my port starter last year (the worst possible job that I can see) had to do it by feel mostly but it was no problem

I'm buying a 29 with a 525, I'm being told 79 maybe 80. I looked at a twin Scorpion in Jax, the ad claimed 82 on GPS. I know that Fountain uses the 6.2's now and they state low 70's with those engines, so I'm just as confused about the whole top speed thing too.

They dont make scorpions anymore so that should kinda tell you enough.
