Question on props for the fountain guys

what pitch are you guys in the 32-35 ft range running on your boat. I am looking to get a set of props that will give me a nice cruise and top end, rather then out of the hole, also power in the boat will be in the 600 hp range, per engine.. Thanks with any info on this.. JOHN

I'm turning 26" Hydros in a '32 with stock 415hp 502's. Just as a refernce. Looks like you should be able to step that up with 600hp.

props are trial and error - but with 600 horsepower and assuming a 1.5:1 ratio I would start out with a pair of 30 pitch Bravo 1s. If you are pulling all the way up to your desired RPM you can determine wheather you want to go longer on the pitch with a lab finished prop. If you are a few hundred RPM shy then you may want to drop back to a 28. I have the same quandry with an 04 35X - boat runs 80MPH with 496s on 1.65:1 but I would like more in the midrange than my stock 32 pitch bravo 1s are giving me and its not like I can afford to make mistakes buying propellors. All I can say is see if you can borrow someones set before you buy. Where is Northpoint Creek? I am running out of Pasadena and am looking for another Fountain to run with.

I have a 1998 32' Fever w/ 502/415's but it has Gil headers and risers which probably adds a little bit more HP. The ratio is 1.5:1 and I run lab finished Bravo 30 pitch turning out. The last time out on a cool day we ran 82 mph on the gps. I would think you could run at least 32 Bravo's with 600 HP. My buddy has a 2004 35' Lightning w/525's also with 1.5:1 ratio and he runs Bravo 32's turning out and he runs 91 mph on the gps. Have you considered 5 or 6 blades?

Good gawd, 82 on 415's.
I tried a set of 28 Bravos and was lucky to turn 4500.
My best with my 26 Hydros that have been blueprinted is right at 75mph. I'm running SM exhaust. I gotta dig deep into my motors and see why I got the slow ones.

Used to be called Pasadena Boatell - now called Atlantic Marine resort. I thought I saw a fountain sneak in there one day and then turn around - may have been you guys. We need to get together - the more Fountains, the better. Ill catch you on the board and well hook up before spring. Congrats on the boat. Age dont matter - Im 47 and my closest friend is 71 and he is running a 2000 272 Baja with a 502/415 out ofthe same Marina. My other guy I run with is 63 and is running a 33 powerplay with HP 500s - also same Marina

Re: Question on props for the fountain guys

Much higher x dimension on the newer fountains. I prefer the handling of the hydromotives to the mercs. they are faster on the topend.ifyoure running stock 1.5 Bravos I would start at a 27p Hydromotive 4 blade and work your way up. Before you go buying expensive props in the 30-32p range. I ran 26 hydros on my 32 with 425hp. I would think that a 27 would get the job done. start there. 27,28,29p props are easier to get rid of if you make a mistake. I don't think with that set up especially if you are running stocklowers that you are going to pull a 30 anything.

I run a 32 fever with joey griffen 650's....30P Labbed Bravo 1's turning in. Going to play with some new props in the spring so I might have the current set for sale (if you can wait that long!) Have fun
